Risk Factors

• After term Cesarean Delivery without prior labor -Most common


• Usually is noted in larger premature
• Diabetic mother
• Infants with poor respiratory drive as a result of placental passage of
analgesic drugs are also risk factor
• Family history of asthma
Clinical Manifestations
• Transient tachypnea of the newborn is a self limited condition
• It is characterized by the early onset of
Tachypnea , sometimes with retractions or (mild retraction) ,
Nasal flaring , Hypoxia and Occasional Grunting (usually expiratory),
usually without sign of severe respiratory Distress ,
• Cyanosis (But relived by o2 supplementation)
• Chest generally sounds clear without crackles or wheeze
• Hypercapnia and acidosis are uncommon
