Multi-tester

What is Multi-tester?

Also called Multi-meter or VOM

(Volt, Ohm, Milliammeter)

is an instrument use to
measure voltage, resistance
and current.
TYPES OF MULTI-METTER

Is more
ANALOG MULI-TESTER convenient
and easy to
operate
because of
the digital
display. The
digital
display
shows the
exact value
DIGITAL MULI-TESTER that you will
need.

Has a moving coil assembly which is

characterized by a needle pointer.
GOOD AND BAD POINTS OF ANALOG MULTI-TE
STER
Good Points
– Continuous monitoring of the pointer permits of how the value changes
.

Bad Points
– In certain ranges the indicated value may differ widely from the actual v
alue.
– The use of many scales on the same instrument can cause confusion.
– When resistance is to be measured , an 0Ω adjustment is necessary eac
h time the range is changed.
– The polarities of the test leads must be used correctly. Otherwise revers
e movement of the pointer can damage an analog multi-meter.
GOOD AND BAD POINTS OF DIGITAL MULTI-
TESTER
Good Points
– Generally provides high accuracy.
– When the value is to be read, it is not necessary to convert the indica
ted value.
– Each of the voltage ranges provide high internal resistance that are c
onstant in value. Therefore the low voltage range also provides high i
nternal resistance, which is a great value when measuring semicondu
ctor circuits.

The advantage of analog multi-tester over digital multi-tester is

a resistance test in testing electronic components such as capac
itor & transistor.

3
Check the accuracy of the ohmmeter by
touching two test probes. Set the Multi-
tester to x1 ohm or x10ohm selector
resistance range. Hold the two test probes
simultaneously
4
Check the probes if they are okey.
(Ohmmeter calibration)
a. Set the Multi-tester to
corresponding selector resistance
range.
b. Short the two test probes lead
together.

The pointer should deflect towards zero

ohm reading.
