WHAT IS EMIGRATION?

 Emigration is the relocation or

process of people leaving one
country to reside in another.

EMIGRATION IN ALBANIA :

• Emigration used to be illegal and the opportunity to migrate was given rarely only to those
with the purpose of studying, working or family reuniting.

•After the visa liberalization the emigration of the Albanian people was massive.

•Since 2015 the number of Albanian emigrants towards the EU consists of 68.000 citizens,
where most of them were students.

•Albanians have mostly moved towards Greece and Italy.

Do you see yourself
emigrating from
Albania?

In 2018 the Albanian students were asked about their thoughts on migrating from
Albania. The answers stated that a high percentage of students see themselves leaving
in the near future for a better lifestyle, better income and higher chances of being hired.
Other than these reasons, students want to emigrate as they don't see a way of how
Albania is going to improve for better.

PSYCHOSOCIAL CONSEQUENCES
OF EMIGRATION

Migrants are affected by social inequalities and are likely to go through certain experiences
during the migration process, such as legal, social, cultural, economic, behavioral and
communication barriers, which impair their physical, mental and social well-being.

In addition to tackling poverty and social exclusion, which have negative impacts on health,
migrants health is also largely determined by the availability, accessibility, eligibility and quality
of services in the host environment.

 paying or bribing guards at border crossings.
THE RETURN OF ALBANIAN MIGRANTS

 The returned emigrants belong to the period after the economic crisis of
2008, where about 1/3 of the migrants, especially from Greece, settled in
Albania, some of them without the usual savings of the pre-crisis period.
 The returnees to Albania were mainly emigrants who lost their jobs in the
destination country.
 Albanian migrants have played an important role in sending remittances,
self employment and starting small businesses and returned with a plan to
invest in Albania.
 Difficulties abroad.
SUGGESTIONS AND CONCLUSIONS

From this study we conclude that immigration remains the silent but obvious killer that has a high impact
on our country.
It turns out that the largest percentage of students are waiting for the moment to leave Albania without
intending to return.
Chain immigration arises as a result of the large departure of young people from Albania, which affects the
well-being of adults where the latter emigrate to avoid loneliness and sadness.
The destination country of Albanian migrants marks the highest figure towards the EU mainly Germany due
to the situation of more favorable conditions.
Albanian emigration, in addition to enabling the majority to have a better life, has also had a negative
impact on their mental health until they reach full acceptance and settlement.
From all the statistics and analyzes we come to the conclusion that the Albanian emigration will not have a
decrease in the number of migrants if the country does not increase the opportunities to develop a better life.

•End to corruption and discrimination;

• Changing the economic structure and increasing it;
• Providing employment opportunities;
• Providing education opportunities;
• Promoting stability;
•Improving the infrastructure for providing services;
