What is Balance?

BALANCE
 An equal weight distribution that allows someone
or something to stay upright and stable

 Ability to control your body’s position whether


stationary or while moving.
TWO TYPES OF BALANCE

1. Static Balance

 Is defined as balancing in one place


without movement.

 Is the ability to maintain postural


stability and orientation with center of
mass over the base of support and body
at rest.
2. Dynamic Balance
 Is defined as balancing in one place
with movement.

 Is the ability to maintain postural


stability and orientation with center of
mass over the base of support while
the body parts are in motion.
Examples of Exercises/ Activities that
involve Balance

1. Single Leg Standing

Benefits of Incorporating Balance to your
Workout
1. Body Awareness
- Body awareness is the sense of how your limbs
are oriented in space, also known as proprioception.

2. Coordination
- Balance training requires your entire body to
work together, otherwise you will fall or stumble.

3. Joint Stability
- Balance training promotes stables knees, ankles,
hips, and shoulders.
4. Reaction Time
- Balance training can improve one’s reaction
time.

5. Long Term Health


- Incorporating balance training into your
exercise routine helps to maintain or improve your
balance, which needed to prevent falls and
fractures.
