Conclusion
What is supply chain management ?

The management of upstream and downstream

relationships with suppliers and customers in order
to deliver superior customer value at less cost to the
supply chain as a whole.
What is transport ?

Transport or transportation is the movement of
humans, animals and goods from one location to
another. In other words, the action of transport is
defined as a particular movement of an organism or
thing from a point A to a point B.
Modes of transport

Airways Raillways
Waterways Roadways
AIR

Air transport is the use of a fixed-wing

aircraft, commonly called airplane for the
movement of people and commodities.

Maritime transport, fluvial transport, or more generally waterborne

transport is the transport of people (passengers) or goods (cargo)
via waterways. Freight transport by sea has been widely used
throughout recorded history.
Transport by water is cheaper than transport by air.
Rail :

Rail transport is where

a train runs along a set of
two parallel steel rails,
known as a railway or
railroad. The rails are
anchored perpendicular to
ties of timber, concrete or
steel, to maintain a
consistent distance apart,
or gauge.

Road :
Road transport or road transportation is a
type of transport by using roads. Transport
on roads can be roughly grouped into the
transportation of goods and transportation of
people. In many countries licensing
requirements and safety regulations ensure a
separation of the two industries.
A road is an identifiable route, way
or path between
Others modes of transport :

Pipeline transport sends goods through a pipe; most

commonly liquid and gases are sent, but pneumatic
tubes can also send solid capsules using compressed
air.
INTERRELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN TRANSPORTATION AND
LOGISTICS

Without well developed transportation systems,

logistics could not bring its advantages into full
play a good transport system in logistics activities
could provide better logistics efficiency, reduce
operation cost, and promote service quality

Procurement :

After placing the supply orders, the service

logistics takes care of transport
Manufacturing :

Transportation plays an essential role in moving

raw materials at the right time to make a given
product
The impact of transport on inventory requirements

Inventory requirements which are influenced by the mode of transport selected

for use. When high speed, high priced transportation systems are used, the
inventories required to be maintained in the logistics system would be smaller as
compared to that when slow, less expensive transportation systems are used.
The impact of transport on handling

The firm’s materials handling equipments are

determined by the type of carrier used for transportation,
for example, the handling equipments for loading and
unloading the carrier and the design of the receiving and
shipping docks depend on the type of carriers used.
Distribution

transport plays a key role in delivering products to

customers, at the right time to the right place
The impact of transport on reverse logistics

Transportation not only delivers material and products

to customers, but also moves reusable and recyclable
content to companies that can use it .
so we could say that transport is considered as the end
result of all logistical efforts from supply to distribution
Conclusion :

the main objective of supply chain management is customer

satisfaction and transportation is considered a key success factor
in this .
