Dafydd ap Llywelynx his nephewx against
Dafydd͛s restoring to Gruffudd ap
Gwenwynwyn all his rights in Powys and to the
sons of Maredudd ap Cynan all their rights in
Meirionnyddx and therewith summoning
Dafydd to London to the council and that he
bring along with him Gruffuddx his brother͙

commercex and the inhabitants suffered from
want. They accepted English rule unwillingly;

the magnates of Walesx despoiled of their

known to him that they preferred to be slain in
battle for their liberty than to suffer
themselves to be trampled upon in bondage
by men alien to them.

the king and to hold the lands and homages of Wales
as his grandfather Llywelyn [ab Iorwerth] had held
themx offers to do homage to the king for them and
willingly marry a certain niece of the king. Or he
would pay the king 11x marksx his queen 2x
marksx and his son Edward 3x marksx to be paid
over eighty years at £2 per annumx and would give
the king two commotesx namely Prestatyn and
Creuddynx within which the castles of Degannwy and
Diserth were builtx and would restore to the
Marchers lands in Wales occupied by him and his
men. Or he would pay £7 for a seven-year trucex
namely £1 per annum.
