Pros
• Consistently ranked among the top
20-30 universities in the world.
• The motivational environment will
be good for me.
• I am looking for the quality
teaching that UBC provides
Cons
• It is an hour drive from my house,
so a two hour commute in total.
• A little more expensive than some
other universities.
 Program
• The program I am choosing is Mathematical Sciences.
• You study subjects like differential sciences, mathematical proof, matrix
algebra and much more while establishing a solid base in mathematics.
• You can emphasize mathematics, statistics, computer science or any
combination of the three.
 Program Requirements
• English 12, pre calc 12, a grade 12 science, English 11, approved language
11, physics 11, chemistry 11
• There is an English competency test at UBC because English is the
primary language there.
 Courses
• Year 1: CPSC 110 – programming, MATH 100
– differential calculus, CPSC 121 – models of
computation, MATH 101 - integral calculus,
PHYS 101 – energy and waves
• Year 2: CPSC 210 – software construction,
CPSC 213 – intro to computer systems, CPSC
221 – basic algorithms/data structures, MATH
220 – mathematical proof, STAT 200 – statistics
 Fees
• Tuition for the program is $6,330.50 per year
• Cost of housing: $5,100-$7,000
• Cost of meal plan: $3,300-$5,800
 Finances
• I will apply to as many scholarships as I can
• My parents have some money saved up for school
• I can work and save up a bit of money
• The amount of money I would need would change based on if I commute
there or live there
