AUTONOMIC NERVOUS
SYSTEM
NERVOUS SYSTEM
Nervous system categorized into two
system:
1. Central Nervous System
.Brain
.Spinal cord
2. Peripheral Nervous System
.Somatic Nervous System
.Autonomic Nervous System
Autonomic Nervous System
It is a control system that acts as
unconsciously & regulate the body function
such as heart rate, digestions, respiratory
rate, urination, sexual response etc.

It is composed of 3 divisions:
Sympathetic Nervous System
Parasympathetic Nervous System
Enteric Nervous System
Sympathetic Nervous System

Cell bodies of sympathetic nervous

system are found in lateral horn gray
matter of spinal cord segment T1 to L2
(14 Segment).
Adrenergic receptor is used for its
function.
It uses noradrenalin as neurotransmitter .
Parasympathetic Nervous System

Cell bodies of Parasympathetic Nervous

System are found in 2 place i.e.
- Gray matter of brain stem associated with cranial
nerve 3,7,9 & 10.
- Spinal cord gray matter in sacral segments S2,
S3,S4.
Cholinergic Receptor is used for its function.
It uses acetylcholine as the neurotransmitter.
