Group 1

Listen carefully to the instructions of the

teacher.
•Fold the circle into 4 equal parts
by folding it horizontally and
vertically.
•Mark the center of the circle with an X.
•Then mark the horizontally
fold, A and B at both ends.
A X B

diameter

A diameter is a line segment that passes through the center

of a circle and has both endpoints on the circle.
•Mark the vertically fold, C
and D at both ends.
C A radius is a segment that
has one endpoint at the
center and the other on
radius the circle.

teacher.
Prepare 3 pieces of string/rope:

•1 metre
•½ of a metre
•¼ of a metre
•Pot
•Stone
•Get a metre of string/rope, put
it around a pot until the ends
meet.
•Put a stone at the center.
•Using the second piece of string,
place from a point on the circle
to any point on the circle that
passes through the stone.
•Get the last piece of rope and
put it anywhere on the circle.
Directions:
• Group yourselves into 4.
• Each group will draw a circle with O as the center
point.
• Name the diameter RS
• Name the radii: radius OR, radius OS, radius OP and
radius OY
• Post the circle on the board.

B. Draw a circle. Show its diameter,

radii and circumference.
Z
Circle is a set of all points on a
plane that are equal distance
from a given point called center.

Diameter is a line segment that
passes through the center of a circle
and has both endpoints on the circle.
Radius is a segment that has one
endpoint at the center and the other
point on the circle.
Circumference is the distance
around the circle.
Direction: Using the circle below, name:
1. The center
2. 5 radii
3. 2 diameter
Directions:
Using the same circle, tell whether the line segment is a diameter or a
radius.
• ON = ________
• OR = ________
• PR = ________
• OK = ________
• OP = ________
Draw a circle showing the following.
• S as the center
• TX as a diameter
• SY as a radius
• SX as a radius
• SO as a radius
• ST as a radius
Assignment:
1. If the radius of a circle is 10 cm, how long is its
diameter?
2. How long are the radii?
3. Show that circle by means of a drawing.
