SQUARE OF BINOMIAL
Objectives:

Use model and algebraic method in

squaring of a binomial
Solve problems involving square of
binomial.
The Villa Anna Farm and Resort in San Jose,
Occidental Mindoro was inherited by the three
siblings namely Abrylle, Abby, and Albert. Abrylle
owned 7hm in length and 7hm in width of the land,
while Abby owned two 7hm in length and 1hm in
width of the land. Since Albert sold some of his land
to his sisters he only have 1hm in length and 1hm in
width. What is the total area inherited by the three
siblings?

Total Area
A = (l + w) 2
Total Area
A = (l + w) 2

= ( l ) 2 + 2(l)(w) + (w) 2
Total Area
A = (l + w) 2

= ( l ) 2 + 2(l)(w) + (w) 2
= (7hm) 2 + 2(7hm)(1hm) + (1hm) 2
Total Area
A = (l + w) 2

= ( l ) 2 + 2(l)(w) + (w) 2
= (7hm) 2 + 2(7hm)(1hm) + (1hm) 2
= 49hm 2 + 14hm 2 + 1hm 2
Total Area
A = (l +w) 2

= ( l ) 2 + 2(l)(w) + (w) 2
= (7hm) 2 + 2(7hm)(1hm) + (1hm) 2
= 49hm 2 + 14hm 2 + 1hm 2

Practice Exercise:
If you will be designing the floor plan of your
house, which part of the house would you allot
2 bigger areas, how about for one bigger
portion than the first, and the rest of the parts
your house? Why did you consider such?
Make a solution to show total area of your floor
plan? Use the scale 1sq.m=1sq. unit?
What did you learn about in this lesson?
Assessment
Square the following binomials using the pattern
you just learned.
1. (s + 4) 2

2. (w – 5) 2

3. (e – 7)2
4. (2q – 4)2
5. (3z + 2k)2
Assessment
Square the following binomials using the pattern
you just learned.
1. (s + 4) = s + 8s + 16
2 2

2. (w – 5) = w – 10w + 25
2 2

3. (e – 7)2 = e2 -14e + 49
4. (2q – 4)2 = 4q2 – 16q + 16
5. (3z + 2k)2 = 9z2 + 12zk + 4k2
