IMPROVE IN YIELD IN CUTTING
(Project)

 Yield is generally defined as the total stock

available to total stock used.

Mathematically,
Yield = Output / Input
Term Used
 Plates:-
Upto 6mm= Sheet
6mm to 80mm=plate
Above 80mm=slabs

 Material of plate:-
Mild steel
c-45
Sailma
Sail Hard
Items prepared from plate

 1. Angle according to ISA

 2. Channel according to ISM
 3. Beam according to ISMB Bea
 4. Rod
 5. Pipe
 6. Rail
TYPE OF CUTTING METHODS

Cutting Methods

Plasma Cutting Oxyfuel Cutting

Plasma Cutting
 A gas is heated to an extremely high
temperature, it ionizes. At this point, the
electrically conductive, ionized gas can be
called plasma.
Oxyfuel Cutting
• Oxyfuel cutting is primarily used for cutting
mild Steel. The technology has a very large
heat-affected zone when compared to the other
metal cutting technologies .
Consider During Metal Cutting

Machine Motion Control
 Torch Tip-to-Material Distance
Control
 Plasma Gases
 Assist Gases
What is Nesting ?

 Nesting is a process of arranging the

component properly on the mother plate in
order to achieve the better Utilization of plate
Why nesting is required?

 Optimum use of raw materials.

 Minimum scrap generation.
 Minimum time to cut the plate.
 Increasing yield by proper mixing of job.
 Sequence of cutting as per requirement
What Is Nesting Software?

 nesting software automatically and efficiently

arranges the required quantities of individual
parts to be produced on sheets or plates of
stock material.
 It does this by using part geometry from CAD
files to output NC code that controls a cutting
machine, such as a laser, plasma, oxyfuel,
waterjet .
Working process

 Input available are IS and Drawing.

 Detailing ( making load chart ).
 Drawing in AUTO-CAD.
 Save the file in DXF.
 Send the file to KAP8030N for figure definition.
 Now file send for Nesting.
 Generate CNC code.
 Send to machine.
 Plot cutting
 Identification
 Send for next operation.
 Handover to fabrication section through Progresscum H/O Sheet.
How to increase the yield ?
 Availability of product.
 Availability of required thickness of raw material.
 Proper Nesting.
 Proper shape of product.
 High-quality torches yield better cut quality.
 Improving torch consumables functionally yields better
cuts.
 Poor CNC Programming =Poor cut quality.
 Torch height control ensures correct piercing.
 Correct cut height, speed optimize performance.
 Correct cutting and assist gases make the cut.
MACHINES USED

 Tanaka-1
 Tanaka-2
 Plasma (Koike)
 Pug m/c
 Gloor m/c
 Shearing m/c
 Rolling m/c
 Press Brake m/c
 Straightening m/c
Problems in current situations
 Loss of material due to melting
at high temperature of cutting.
 Taking margin at the edge of the
sheet.
 Sometime lack of demand, losses
of material occurs.
Suggestions for new system:-

 Select pressure and temperature very close or

according to the metal sheet material
properties and ambient properties and select
proper cooling system to prevent from
overheating.
 Make such type of sheet metal holder system
during cutting so that it bothered high
pressure during cutting and we will no need to
take margins along the sheet metal for it’s
accuracy.
