INTRODUCTION
 MOBILE COMPUTING is defined as a technology
that allows transmission of data, via a computer,
without having to be connected to a fixed physical
link.
EXISTING CELLULAR NETWORK ARCHITECTURE

 It consists of number of Base

stations
 Each Base Station located at a
place covering a given area or cell
 Base stations communicate
through a Mobile Switching
Center (MSC)
 Mobile Switching Center may be
connected to other Mobile
Switching Centers on the same
network or to Public Switched
Telephone Network (PSTN).
DATA COMMUNICATIONS
 Data Communications is the exchange of data using
existing communication networks.
Data Communications have been achieved by using
technologies such as circuit - switching, packet - switching
e.t.c.
 Circuit switching:
 Implies that data from one user (sender) to
another (receiver) has to follow a prespecified path.
Packet switching:
It split the message to be sent into
packets ,and send to receiver by using the Virtual
Circuit-Switching system or Datagram system .
CDPD TECHNOLOGY
It uses the idle time in between existing voice signals that
are being sent across cellular network
CDPD Network allows fixed or mobile users to connect to
the network across a fixed link and packet switched
system respectively
CDPD NETWORK HIERARCHY
 CDPD networks have a network hierarchy with each
level of the hierarchy doing its own specified tasks.

1. Mobile End User

Interface
2. Mobile Data Base Station
(MDBS)
3. Mobile Data Intermediate
Systems (MDIS)
4. Intermediate Systems (IS)

APPLICATIONS
For Estate Agents
Emergency Services
In companies
Stock Information Collation/Control
Credit Card Verification
Electronic Mail/Paging
CONCLUSION
Mobile data services are here today and provide solid business
benefits that are quantifiable.

Users of traditional data networks should be aware of the capabilities

wireless data communications applications offer, and must consider
how these applications can be used effectively as business tools
