BALANCE DIET

What is a Balance diet?

-A balance diet is the one that


gives your body the nutrients it
needs to function correctly.

-It is diet consisting of a variety


of different types of food and
providing adequate amounts of
the nutrients necessary for good
health.
There are seven essential
factors for a balanced diet:

-Carbohydrate,
-Protein,
-Fat,
} MACRONUTRIENTS

-Vitamins,
-minerals, } MICRONUTRIENTS

-Fiber and
-water.
Micronutrients often referred
to as vitamins and minerals, are
vital to healthy development,
disease prevention, and
wellbeing.
Macronutrients are nutrients
that provide energy essential
for growth and maintenance;
and are required in large
amounts to maintain body
functions and carry out the
activities of daily life. 
CARBOHYDRATES
gives 45-55% of daily calories,
its function is to give Energy.
It is found in grains (refined &
unrefined): wheat, corn,
oats, rice, flour, pasta,
noodles; potatoes; sweet
potatoes, yam. Fruit (sugar).
PROTEIN
gives 10-35% of daily calories, its
function is to maintain Tissue
growth, enzymes, hormones
and a good building block for
skin and muscles.
It is found in Meats, fish, nuts,
eggs, soya, beans and pulses.
FAT
gives 20-35% of daily
calories, energy storage
and hormone production
are its primary function.

We can get fat from Nuts,


seeds, plant oils, dairy
products (milk, cheese).
FIBER
Also included in carbohydrates,
the function of the fiber is to
Regulate blood sugar levels,
bowel function and bowel
health.
Fibers are found in Peas, beans,
vegetables, fruit, oats, whole
grains, brown rice, nuts and
seeds.
Vitamins & minerals
are found in Specific to each
vitamin/mineral. A range of
vegetables, lean meat, nuts
and seeds will cover most
people’s needs.
This helps to Metabolism
regulation, aiding cell growth,
other biochemical functions
WATER
used for maintaining the
hydration of the body, this
are the drinking water and
other beverages.
Calories refers to the energy
people get from the food and
drink they consume, and the
energy they use in physical
activity.
The human body needs
calories to survive. Without
energy, the cells in the body
would die, the heart and lungs
would stop, and the organs
would not be able to carry out
the basic processes needed for
living. People absorb this
energy from food and drink.

IMPORTANT?

A balanced diet is important


because your organs and tissues
need proper nutrition to work
effectively. Rising levels of
obesity and diabetes all around
the world are prime examples of
the effects of a poor diet and a
lack of exercise.
Providing your body with a
balanced diet and cutting out
excessive fat, sugar, and salt
will help you reduce your risk
of disease and even injury.
However, eating healthy also
supports healthy mental
function as well. having a
healthy diet creates a
compounding positive effect
that perpetuates itself into a
healthy lifestyle.

physical and a good mental
health.
-It helps in proper growth of the
body.
-It increases the capacity to work
-It increases the ability to fight
or resist diseases and infections
-Helps you control your weight
-Better skin and hair
Being physically active
manages many health
problems and improves
mental health by reducing
stress, depression, and pain.

syndrome, stroke, high blood
pressure, arthritis, and
anxiety.
