FOOD SECURITY
 Food security refers to a system that allows the

security? times.
 Food security aims at providing sufficient food for all
people in the country, increasing the food buying
capacity of the people and removing obstacles in
procuring food.
 The Green Revolution led to improved production and
India became self-sufficient in food grain production.
 The government formulated a food security system to
ensure systematic storage and proper distribution of
the surplus food.
 In the Buffer Stock stage, the government maintains a
minimum reserve of food grains. 5

FOOD PRODUCTION Growth Rate
How to increase food production .

 Selection of proper crop to plant.

 The efficient and right use of fertilizers and pesticides.
 Multi level Farming
 Sustainable soil management practices ,such as conservation agriculture should go hand in hand
with more efficient irrigation practices to enhance small holder farmer resilience.
 Adopting soil reclamation process.
 Pulse Nitrogen Fixation.
 Training farmers for adapting new techniques of agriculture ,cultivation and crop rotation.
 Adapting water conservation and water harvesting techniques.
 High tech farming which includes stacking.

FOOD STORAGE
EQUIPMENT SYSTEM

On Farm storage: Farmers often have to keep their surplus on the farm for several months. To this end, farmers manufacture traditional
grain, often completely out of locally available material. In other areas, clay jars or silos are manufactured. The practice of underground
storage is also followed in some countries. In some cases, these storage containers are also treated by coating or spraying them with some
plant extracts that help remove pests.
Warehouse storage: A warehouse is a place where large quantities of grain or agricultural produce can be stored; And such warehouses are
usually owned and operated by agricultural produce marketing corporations. Additional storage, to store sufficient quantities for future use
Infrastructure needs to be developed. Warehouse services require higher upfront capital expenditures, longer term periods and have issues of
increasing land acquisition costs and labor shortages. Therefore it will need to be made available for other related services soon. In many
countries, warehouse storage facilities are owned by the government, but private participation is currently being invited, to allow other
players to serve the purpose of food security as well.
Farmers can also take advantage of a system called warehouse receipts, where produce is stored in secure warehouses, which they can use as
collateral to obtain finance. Once they obtain finance, farmers can repay the loan immediately, waiting to sell their produce at a competitive
price in the market. A warehouse receipt is issued to him - a document that provides proof of ownership of goods stored in a warehouse.
Food processing: It is also a type of food storage as it expands the availability of food items beyond the region and production season, thus it
stabilizes the supply, and brings variety of nutrients, nationally and domestically. But enhances food safety. There are many types and levels
of food processing.

SOLUTIONS FR
 Promote Investments in the agriculture sectors as to ensure increase in food production & quality
with advance and modern techniques. Investment is necessary if we want to deal with food security
because investment will play major role in dealing with food securities like – advance and modern
techniques.

 PULSE NITROGEN FIXATION
 The process by which atmospheric nitrogen is converted into either a natural or an industrial means to form
of nitrogen such as ammonia.

 Symbiotic Nitrogen Fixation bacteria
 Invade host plants' root hairs where they multiply and estimate root nodules formation, enlargement of
plant cells, and bacteria intimate association.
 within nodules convert n2 to ammonia, which the host plants utilize for its develop.
 Advantages-
 The Nitrogen Fixation bacteria fixes atmospheric n2 in the root nodules of the leguminous plants without any
fertilizers.
 If you want Nitrogen Fixation plants to benefit other plants , best way is to grow them as “green manures”.
 Process for agriculture production in many cropping systems because of direct input of atmospheric nitrogen
 cereals associate with diverse bacteria.
 Hermetic storage
 It is also known as sealed storage or airtight storage.
 It is gaining popularity as for the storage of pulses, coffee and cocoa beans in developing countries due to its effectiveness and avoidance of
the use of chemical pesticides.
 The method creates an automatic modified atmosphere of high carbon dioxide concentration using sealed waterproof bags or structures. As
the structures are airtight, the biotic portion of the grains (insects and aerobic microorganisms) creates a self-inhibitory atmosphere over
time by increasing carbon dioxide concentration (oxygen decreases) due to its respiration metabolism.
 Hermetic storage has been observed to be very effective in avoiding the losses (storage losses less than 1%) during long distance
(international) shipments also . Ease of installation, elimination of pesticide use, favorable costs, and modest infrastructure requirements
are some of the additional advantages that make the hermetic storage options attractive.

 This will limit damage caused by pests and there will
be no oxygen (air), so any insects inside the storage
will quickly die.

 As hermetic storage is sealed storage the grain is

sealed off from the air, animals will not be able to Crop Reference(B)
smell any grain. This will greatly reduce attacks from 70

rodents and birds.

 Poor-ware-house Layout
• Efficient use of space , a critical factor in warehousing where we are trying to do more with less.
• Inadequate storage space as well as inefficient use of available spaces are common problems with poor
facility layout.
• We can overcome this problem by optimal warehouse layout considers both the floor space and the vertical
space available for use.

 Government must release MSP sheets as per district concern ,manages and maintains all records of
agriculture products of that districts . The FCI can give strict guidelines that we are going to buy this
agriculture product from this district at MSP . If we apply the MSP rule per district wise concerning the
weather conditions ,other physical and chemical changes of agriculture land of a particular district.

 RESULT-

The result will be that it will not leave the farmer at the mercy of the market. Procurement for public
distribution system and buffer stock for food security come from this policy. It has a heavy influence on
market prices and also helps the farmer grow production and match up with other sectors in terms of
income.
