• Born in Sombersy Lincolnshire on August 6th, 1809
• Unstable family, history of mental disorders
• Events in his life led to worry about financial issues
• Attended Trinity College, Cambridge, but left before he completed his
degree.
• His first work was published in 1827
• In 1850, he became the Poet Laureate of Great Britain
