Transportation
Airlift
Foundation
 The idea of Airlift was conceived by the founding Chief Executive Usman Gul after
he experienced the congestion during his visit to Lahore for vacations which was
caused by the inefficiency of local transportation.

 In March 2019, Gul along with a small team founded the Airlift and launched its
operations with a pilot project in Lahore. Gul initially self funded the startup using
US$ 50,000.

 As of July 2019, the company was operating in two Pakistani cities, Karachi and
Lahore. In August 2019, Airlift raised $2.2 million in seed funding from local and
international institutions.

 According to a report, Airlift acquired 50,000 riders in Lahore in less than five
months of its operations. In November 2019, the company raised Series A funding
of $12 million which included participation from American venture capital firm
First Round Capital.
How it works?
How does Airlift work?
 Airlift runs on a fixed routes that touches major residential areas and commercial hubs.
 All you need to do is make an account, select pick up and drop off points on a given route and book a seat,
then you have to take a short walk to the pick-up point to get onboard and take a short walk on drop off

point to get to your destination .

Routes
 Currently Airlift runs in two major cities Karachi and Lahore. The routes can be found in their
official app.
 Its not necessary that the route favorable and most convenient to you available because Airlift
prioritizes high demand routes first and also it takes a lot of planning and analysis to launch
routes.
 The service ensures high safety for their users that’s why they have implemented the policy of
age 16 years and older because you have to walk to the pick-up point and its often challenging
for the young children.
Bookings
 The order can be placed 15 minutes prior to the route starting time. For example, if your routes
start at 8:15 you need to place the booking before 8:00. After 8 the booking will not be
accepted.
 You can only place one order from one device so if you have a person travelling with you
make sure to sign them up in an app. Also, the app is working on multiple bookings system
through which you can book the rides for entire week or month.
 The vans travel on fixed routes at a fixed times so you cannot order it anytime you want you
have to make a prior booking and keep in mind the time to travel.
 Once you have placed booking you can track your van and Google maps will guide you
towards the pick-up point. The captain will ask for your name to confirm your bookings, if you
haven’t made the booking, you will not be able to board.
Payments
• Customers can use their credit/debit cards and easypaisa on our mobile app to purchase ride
packages. Once you have purchased a ride package, your wallet balance will be updated
accordingly with Airlift Credits. the Airlift platform has a fixed total cost of the ride based on
the shortest distance between the pickup and drop off point. You will be able to review the
total fare before confirming your booking .
SWOT Analysis
Strengths
 One of the benefits of Airlift is that it operates at a fixed time. They are immensely punctual
which is a major benefit for passengers who are dissatisfied with Careem’s untimeliness
 Airlift makes commute safer and more convenient by running buses on fixed routes that users
can book their seats in with the aid of an app.
 The bus hailing service aims to enable women to reclaim public spaces, mobilise people and do
its part to help Pakistan move forward.
 Overall, the cheap cost, punctuality, high comfort and safety makes Airlift a highly
recommendable transportation service and probably one of the best transportation service in
the city.
Weaknesses
 Pandemic is one of the reason we see why external businesses
can get affected, as the country went into lockdown and for the
SOPs to be followed public transport had to be shut down.
 Lack of awareness among the locals.
 Low literacy rate also affects this, as many people aren't aware
on how to use certain apps.
 Aside from the pandemic, strikes, national holidays and
religious holidays also affect it.
Opportunities
 Karachiites do not have services like Metro or Subway, which can prove to be
useful in terms of revenue for the regional government as the profit margins are
high at a very low recovery cost.

 Cart and Travel services like SWL and Airlift are not that common so there is not a
lot of competition hence creating many opportunities for growth.

 There are not many services in Karachi where you can pool cash and get to travel in
a well maintained and air conditioned van.

 These companies also create employment opportunities for drivers and car
dealerships. Sometimes different car dealerships rent their cars to these companies
to be used as taxis.
Threats
 Airlift is running successfully and many people started opting for it. But soon after an another
company with the name of SVWL started the same service which also is giving the same
services on almost same pricing policies.

 Careem and uber had been the first option for many people but after the success of Airlift if
these companies start the same service it can result in a loss for Airlift as Careem and uber has
already established a name for themselves and there are more users of Careem and uber and if
they start the same service with same pricing it wouldn’t be beneficial for Airlift.

 Economic factor isn’t also helping and due to this pandemic, they weren’t allowed to operate
due to distancing and also the fuel prices and other expenses like maintenance, rent etc. are
also going to increase due to which it may be possible that there will be an increase in fare
prices and that would not help them as people will stop using the service as they are known for
less price cost.
Airlift Express
 Airlift introduced an online grocery service in Pakistan with the name of "Airlift Express"
bringing $10 Million foreign investment. Airlift Express promises an amazing shopping
experience through its express delivery of all orders within 45 minutes. Shoppers would also
be able to choose from a wide range of products, which are sure to be delivered with accuracy
and in high quality. Airlift Express is currently operating in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.
When, Why & How it works?
 On a mission to enable self-empowerment in the region, on July 1st, 2020,
Airlift Express was introduced.
7Ps of Marketing
 Product  People

 Place  Positioning

 Price  Packaging

 Promotion

 Process
Conclusion
 Airlift has turned out to be a successful business but only pre COVID,
therefore it does has it’s draw backs.
 The standard and comfort ability level has risen due to Airlift and swvl due
to which the customers demand to see more of this and govt might do
something for public transportation in Pakistan, before private companies
takeover this region.
 As we analyzed in SWOT analysis that opportunities for lower labor such
as drivers and mechanics have taken a rise, as well as for rent a car
businesses.
