My favorite band-Queen

Apreutesei Alexandru
Introduction
Queen is a British rock band formed in London, wo England in
1970 and are one of the most commercially successful musical
acts of all time. The band’s members consisted of Freddie
Mercury (lead vocals), Brian May (guitar, vocals), John Deacon
(bass guitar), and Roger Taylor (drums, vocals). Queen's initial
works were chiefly heavy metal orientated, however with time
the band incorporated diverse and innovative styles in their
music, exploring the likes of vaudeville, progressive rock, and
even funk. Throughout the 1970s Queen disclosed the absence
of synthesisers on their albums, yet their style continued to
evolve, which reflected their experimental approach to music.
The history

The group's roots can be traced back to the demise of the band
Smile, of which May and Taylor were part. They were joined by
Farrokh Bulsara who changed the band's name to Queen, and
his own to Freddie Mercury, and adopted the role of lead
vocalist. Deacon was later recruited by the trio to complete the
group. Queen enjoyed success in the UK during the early 1970s
but it was the release of Sheer Heart Attack (1974) and A Night
at the Opera (1975) that gained the band international success,
both critically and commercially.[1] The latter featured
"Bohemian Rhapsody", which stayed at number one in the UK
charts for nine weeks.[2] In 1995, Freddie Mercury retired.[3]
Since then, May and Taylor have infrequently performed
together at special events and programmes.
In modern surveys Queen have been described as giving the
greatest live performance ever, producing the greatest single in
history, and being the best British band of all time. The band
has released a total of 18 number one albums, 18 number one
singles, and 10 number one DVDs worldwide making them one
of the world's best-selling music artists. They have been
honoured with seven Ivor Novello awards and were inducted
into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. In 2009, the
band's record label EMI reported their worldwide album sales as
over 300 million, as did the BBC and numerous other
independent sources.

Early days
 In 1969, guitarist Brian May, a student at London's Imperial College, and bassist Tim Staffell decided to
form a group. May placed an advertisement on the college notice board for a "Mitch Mitchell/Ginger
Baker type" drummer; Roger Taylor, a young dental student, auditioned and got the job. They called the
group Smile. Smile signed to Mercury Records in 1969, and had their first session in a recording studio in
Trident Studios that year. Tim Staffell was attending Ealing Art College with Farrokh Bulsara, later
known as Freddie Mercury, and introduced him to the band. Bulsara soon became a keen fan. Staffell left
in 1970 to join another band, Humpy Bong; the remaining Smile members, encouraged by Bulsara,
changed their name to "Queen" and continued working together, prior to Bulsara himself joining as
vocalist. The band had a number of bass players during this period who did not fit with the band's
chemistry.
It was not until February 1971 that they settled on John Deacon and
began to rehearse for the first album. In 1973, after a series of delays,
Queen released their first album, a self-titled project influenced by the
heavy metal and progressive rock of the day. The album was received
well by critics. However, it drew little mainstream attention and the
lead single Keep Yourself Alive, a May composition, sold poorly. The
album Queen II was released in 1974. The album reached number five
on the British charts, while the Mercury-written lead single Seven Seas
of Rhye reached number ten in the UK, giving the band their first hit.
The album is their heaviest and darkest release, featuring long
complex instrumental passages, fantasy-themed lyrics and musical
virtuosity. The band toured as support to Mott the Hoople in the UK &
United States during this period, and they began to gain notice for their
energetic and engaging stage shows. However, album sales in the US
were, like those of its predecessor, low.
Why do I like them

 I like them because they are unlike any other band in history.
 Each and every one of them is brilliant and very different and together they sound
magical. They are all special and unique in their own way.
 I started listening to this band at a young age and I’ve loved this band ever since.
 In conclusion, I think there will be no other musical group similar to them.
