INTRODUCTION
 Recently, contactless energy transfer (WTS) systems have been developed and investigated
widely.

 Contactless energy transfer is the transmission of electrical power from a power source to a

consuming device without using conductors or solid wires.

 As "medium" for WTS could be used electromagnetic waves, including light, acoustic waves
(sound), as well as electric fields.

 The core of WTS system is inductive or capacitive coupling between power source and load, and
high switching frequency converter.

CLASSIFICATION OF WTS
 Near-field or nonradiative techniques
1) Inductive coupling
2) Resonant inductive coupling
3) Capacitive coupling
4) Magneto dynamic coupling

 Far-field or radiative techniques

1) Microwaves
2)Lasers

INDUCTIVE COUPLING

DEPT OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

 Inductive coupling is the oldest and most widely used wireless power technology

 power is transferred between coils of wire by a magnetic field.

 The transmitter and receiver coils together form a transformer.

APPLICATIONS
 Electric motors and generators

 Inductive charging products

 Induction cookers and induction heating systems

 Transformers

 Wireless power transfer

RESONANCE INDUCTIVE COUPLING

DEPT OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

 It is a form of inductive coupling in which power is transferred by magnetic fields between two
resonant circuits.

 Each resonant circuit consists of a coil of wire connected to a capacitor, with internal capacitance.

 The concept behind resonant inductive coupling systems is that high Q factor.

APPLICATIONS
 WiTricity

 Rezence

 eCoupled

 Wireless Resonant Energy Link

CAPACITIVE COUPLING

DEPT OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

 Capacitive coupling also referred to as electric coupling.

 It use of electric fields for the transmission of power between two electrodes.

 The amount of power transferred increases with the frequency.

 Resonance can also be used with capacitive coupling to extend the range.

APPLICATIONS
 Use in analog circuits

 Use in digital circuits

 Gimmick loop

MICROWAVE RADIATIVE TECHNIQUE

DEPT OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

 Power transmission via radio waves can be made more directional.

 A rectenna may be used to convert the microwave energy back into electricity.

 Wireless high power transmission using microwaves is well proven.

APPLICATIONS
 Efficiency improvement

 Safety assurance

DEPT OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

LASERS

DEPT OF ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING

 power can be transmitted by converting electricity into a laser beam.

 The laser beam is received and concentrated onto photovoltaic cells.

 This mechanism is generally known as power beaming.

 The power is beamed at a receiver that can convert it to electrical energy.

APPLICATIONS
 Compact size

 No radio-frequency

 Access control

ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF WTS
ADVANTAGES
 Wireless networks are cheaper to install and maintain.

 Data is transmitted faster and at a high speed.

 Reduced maintenance and installation cost compared to other form of networks.

 Wireless network can be accessed from anywhere, anytime.

DISADVANTAGES
 It leads to security threats and data exploitation

APPLICATIONS OF WTS
 charging handheld devices like phones.

 electric toothbrushes, RFID tags.

 induction cooking.

 wirelessly charging.

 continuous wireless power transfer medical devices.

 artificial cardiac pacemakers.
