LITERATURE REVIEW
• A literature review is a part of the research paper that
takes into account the different published journals and
other written work that has already delved into the same
topic that the researcher is currently studying (Taylor, n.d)
• It is a process of reviewing work of others within your field
and using that as a basis for your data collection.
• Structuring your literature review is an important and
creative task.
• Theoritical Framework can be supplement or
compensation for literature review.
THE REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
• It mainly discusses what other authors have already
published on the topic at hand.
• It simply is a review of the different published works that is
related to the main subject of the current research.
• It is more of an introduction of the research itself.
• Annotated bibliography- is a detailed summarization of
every single source that will be used throughout the
research process.
• A review of literature - is a focused reading with purpose.
It is a synthesis and analysis of results from previous
works.
• Abraham Lincoln once said, “Give me six hours to chop
down a tree and I will spend the first four hours
sharpening the axe”. For finding te right published work,
one must take time to think and develop some strategy for
your searches as to attain relevant results in a quicker
span of time.
• Familiarizing yourself with online databases and trying to
narrow down your searches may help in garnering the
right results (Rallis, 2014).
STEPS in Writing an RRL

• 1. SEARCH for Studies related to your Study in published

journals, internet publications, books and magazines.
• 2. READ all the related materials
• 3. OUTLINE the seuence of ideas
• 4. WRITE the reviewof your related literature
• 5. RE-READ your RRL for finalization.
CITING SOURCES
• One important factor to remember when writing one's
review of related literature is o correctlr cite where your
sources come from.
• It gives credit to the authors that wrote the works that you
fashioned your research from.
This is not only avoids PLAGIARISM but it also gives
credibility to what you have written as a researcher as it
shows that the topic is well studied.
PLAGIARISM - are casesgiven to academic writing that did not give any
credit to the author(s) and copied the authors exact words and assumed it as
his own.
STYLES OF CITATION
1. INTEGRAL CITATION -the authors surname is included
as part of the sentence construction.
ex: According to Lupogan (2014) that....
One study conducted by Lim et al. (2013)....
2. NON INTEGRAL CITATION- the authors surname is not
part of the sentence but rather included through inside
parenthesis.
ex: ....writing research is not only effort but with
(Lupogan, 2019).
WAYS OF CITING SOURCES:
1. American Psychological Association (APA) - the most
commonly used style of citation within the social sciences.

2. Modern Language Association (MLA) - the more

commonly used when writing research topics in the liberal
arts and humanities scope of study.

3. Chicago Manual Style- it widely used and respected style

guides in the United States.
