ASSESSMENT

•ARTERIAL BLOOD GAS TEST (BLOOD TEST)

-An Arterial Blood Gas Test, will measure the amount of
oxygen in blood, this is one indication of how well lungs
are working.
-Lung damage can also impact oxygen levels, which
may be lower than normal in someone with COPD.
•CHEST X-RAY
-X-ray will give a picture of the structures inside chest.
These include the Heart, Lungs, and Blood vessels.
The doctor will be able to see if client has evidence of
COPD.
-This tests cannot aid a doctor in determining the
severity of a person's COPD. However, they can help
confirm a diagnosis or rule out whether another
condition is causing the symptoms.
CHEST X-RAY
•PULMONARY FUNCTION TEST
-Pulmonary Function Test (PFTs), it measures how well the
lungs are moving air In and Out. They also measure how well
the lungs are moving oxygen to the blood.
SPIROMETRY (measuring of the breath)
-It is the most common of the Pulmonary Function Test. It
measures lung function specifically the amount (volume) and
speed (flow) of air that can be Inhaled and Exhaled.

-Spirometry is the most effective and common method for

diagnosing COPD.
SPIROMETRY
-The amount of air a person exhale is called Forced
Vital Capacity (FVC). the percentage of air they
exhale during the first second is called Forced
Expiratory Volume (FEV1).

-Doctors base the diagnosis of the ratio

between FEV1 and FVC (age, height and
weight).
-They can also use the FEV1 measurement to help
determine the Severity of COPD.

Classification:
•FEV1 above 80 percent is mild
•FEV1 of 50 to 79 percent is moderate
•FEV1 of 30 to 49 percent is severe
•FEV1 of 29 percent or less is very severe
