ON THE CHLOROPHYLL CONCENTRATION IN THE PRODUCTION
OF NATURAL DYE FROM CASSAVA (Manihot utilisima) LEAVES

Amalia Nur Adiba ( D500164006)

BACKGROUND

In the recent years, the use of natural dyes in textil

e industries is significantly growing.

Natural dye is an alternative subtitute for chemical dye, because

of the biodegradability, renewability, compatibility with the environ
ment and low allergic reaction.

The study aimed to determine the optimum chlorophyll concentration b

y variation of particle size and extraction temperature in the production
of natural dyes from cassava leaves. And to determine the absorbance
of
the dye solution before and after coloring.
Identify Problem
How to make cassava (Manihot utilisima) leaves as natural
1 dyes in textile using a simple aqueous extraction method?

How do the particle size and extraction temperature affect

2 the chlorophyll concentration in the production of natural
dyes from cassava (Manihot utilisima) leaves?

3 What are the absorbances of the dye solution before and after
the coloring?

4
Purpose of Research
To investigate the potential of cassava (Manihot utilisima)
1 leaves as textile natural dyes

To study the optimum chlorophyll concentration by the variation

2 of particle size and extraction temperature.
