INTRODUCTION

OF
CAD SYSTEM
IN
GARMENT
INDUSTRY
OBJECTIVE

Introduction of CAD system.

METHODOLOGY
Study the existing system.

Calculate the time taken in making of patterns.

Calculate the time taken in placement of patterns.

Then calculating the time in making and

placement of patterns in CAD.

Comparing both the times.

Implementation of semi-automatic CAD system.

INTRODUCTION
Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computer
technology for the design of objects, real or virtual. CAD often
involves more than just shapes. As in the manual drafting of
technical and engineering drawings, the output of CAD often
must convey also symbolic information such as materials,
processes, dimensions, and tolerances, according to
application-specific conventions.

CAD may be used to design curves and figures in two-

dimensional ("2D") space; or curves, surfaces, or solids in
three-dimensional ("3D") objects.
Various CAD Systems
CAD systems like Qcad
NX provide multiplatform support including
Windows
 Linux
 UNIX
 Mac OS X
 ArchiCAD works on both Windows and
Mac OS X, but not on Linux;

For example, AutoCAD works on Windows

only
CAD In Sampling Department
Style No. – 667
Total samples to be made = 95
When Patterns were made MANUALLY

Description Average Total

Fabric Base ( rs.65/pc.) 2.1 136.50

CMT 50.00

Embroidery 70.00

Label & tags 10.00

Overheads 20.00

Total Cost 286.50

After Implementation of CAD

Average Total
Description

Fabric Base (rs.65/pc) 1.30 84.50

CMT 50.00

70.00
Embroidery

Label & Tags 10.00

Overheads 20.00

Total Cost 234.50

Total samples = 95
Sales sample average =2.1
Then,
Total fabric consumption will be = 95 X 2.1 m

= 199.5m

FABRIC CONSUMPTION ACCORDING TO

CAD AVERAGE:
Fabric average = 1.3 m
5% wastage = 0.11 m
Total average = 1.3 + 0.11 m
= 1.4 m
Then ,
Total fabric consumption will be = 95 X 1.4 m
= 133 m
Difference in fabric consumption and
cost

 Total difference in fabric consumption ,

= 199.50 – 133 m
= 66.5 m

 Total loss of the company in terms of cost :

Rate per pc. = Rs. 65

Total loss = 66.5 x 65

Suggestion:

 There should marker making on CAD

by which we can easily calculate fabric
average directly by the computer, which
can provide us accurate figure each time.
There can be reduction in time taken in
making patterns & easy accessibility to
modify them, when required.
 Decrease in Stress

 No use of paper drawings

 Lower unit costs – due to reduced

development and prototype expenses
