PHILIPPINES
This part tackles performing arts and literature in the country starting
from the 1970’s up to present, which are commonly integrated as artworks.
Literature refers to works showing ideas and emotions that are creatively
thought of and stated. On the other hand, the performing arts include music,
dance, theater, and cinema/film.
Just like in the visual arts in the country, various influences led to further
development of performing arts and literature. In fact, most art works, such as
songs, dance, and films that we encounter nowadays are heavily influenced by
the Americans. However, there are also art works that are influenced by
Europeans.
However, another important thing to note is that some ethnic and
traditional performing art forms and literary forms still exist today. It is good
to go back to these art forms just like how the Western-influenced performing
art forms and literary forms are appreciated. These do not only reflect cultural
identity as a Filipino and as an Asian, but may also inspire people to use these
as opportunities in enhancing creativity.
LITERATURE
Literature is considered to be a whole bulk written works. However, another definition of literature
means a body of works that show “the best that has been thought and said,” or works that signify
the highest achievements of a particular culture. Contemporary Philippine literature has been
described as focusing on evoking social consciousness. Creative writing during the Martial Law era
was said to be confrontational in highlighting social and political issues.
Creative writing also became more organized during that time. Academic institutions began
offering Creative Writing as one of their respective undergraduate degree program offerings.
Organizations, such as Unyan ng mga Manunulat na Pilipino and Pambansng Unyan ng mga
Manunulat, were established. Literary publishing and later, number of publications, proliferated.
Other section such as women, members of LGBT community, peasants, and workers began writing.
TYPES and ELEMENTS
of LITERATURE
These creative works can be divided into two: poetry and
prose. Poetry refers to expressing a feeling or an idea using
figurative or symbolic language in verse. One can take note

SOUND AND

Rhythm is the just a position of beats or
the sound pattern of the work. On the
other hand, prose refers to literature that
is not poetry. Prose has two categories.
Prose may be informative or persuasive.
RHYME-is the repitition of similar sounds in two or more words. In poetry
these words are usually at the end of a line and help create a certain
