 HISTORY OF LEVERS
 Levers are one of the basic tools that were probably used
in prehistoric times.
 Levers where first described about 260 BC by the ancient
Greek mathematician Archimedes ( 287-212 ).

"मुझे खड़े होने की जगह दो, और मैं पृथ्वी को हिला दूंगा।"

What is a Lever?
 - A rigid bar resting on a pivot
 - Used to help move a heavy
or firmly fixed load with one
end when pressure is applied
to the other.
 -Made out of a ridged object
that pivots around a fulcrum
(the point on which a lever
rests/where it pivots)

Example- Pliers, scissors, see-saw, wheel barrow,

hammer, bottle opner etc.
Definition of a
Lever:-
. “A lever is a rigid
object that revolves
around a fixed point called
a fulcrum or axis”.
How Does it Work?
 - Transfers an applied force over a distance
 - Exerts an output force on an object
 - Increases the magnitude of the output force by
sacrificing the distance the force is applied over
TYPES OF LEVERS
 All movements made by the body are produced by
series of levers working together.
 A LEVER is a rigid bar that turns about an axis to
create movement. All levers contain a Fulcrum, Load
and Effort.
Fulcrum(Axis):-The Point about which
the lever rotates
Load (Resistance) :- The
weight/resistance to be moved by the lever
system
Effort(Force):-- The force applied by the
user (muscle) of the lever system to move the
load
There are 3 types
of levers:
 First Class Levers
 Second Class levers
 Third Class levers
 They all make use of
Fulcrum, Load and
Effort.
Example- See-saw, crowbar, scissors etc.
Example- Doors, staplers, can- oppner etc.
Example- A broom ,A hoe, A fishing rod etc.
Lever of Human Body
Bones, ligaments, and muscles are
the structures that form levers in the
body to create human movement. In
simple terms, a joint (where two or
more bones join together) forms the
pivot (or fulcrum), and the muscles
crossing the joint apply the force to
move a weight or resistance.
All three types are found in the body,
but most levers in the human body are
third class.
Parts of levers in Human Body
 There are four parts of levers in Human Body.
 Lever arms
 Pivot
 Effort
 Load
Benefits of Levers
✓ Increase Power
✓ Increase Distance
✓ Increase Speed
✓ Transfer power from one
place to another
✓ Precision in work safety
✓ Avoid Risks.
