EXPLOITATION AND ITS

UNFAIR EFFECTS
WHAT IS EXPLOITATION?

• the action or fact of treating someone unfairly in order to benefit from their work
• the action of making use of and benefiting from resources
BLACK MARKET SALES

• A black market or underground economy is a market in which goods or services are traded illegally. The
key distinction of a black market trade is that the transaction itself is illegal. The goods or services
themselves may or may not be illegal to own, or to trade through other, legal channels. Because the
transactions are illegal, the market itself is forced to operate outside the formal economy that is
supported by the established state power. Common motives for operating in black markets are to trade
contraband, avoid taxes and regulations, or skirt price controls or rationing. Typically the totality of such
activity is referred to with the definite article as a complement to the official economies, by market for
such goods and services.
HUMAN TRAFFICKING

• Human trafficking is the trade of humans, most commonly for the purpose of sexual slavery,
forced labor, or commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others. This may encompass
providing a spouse in the context of forced marriage, or the extraction of organs or tissues,]including
surrogacy and ova removal.
• Human trafficking can occur within a country or trans-nationally. Human trafficking is a crime against the
person because of the violation of the victim's rights of movement through coercion and because of
their commercial exploitation. Human trafficking is the trade in people, and does not necessarily involve
the movement of the person from one place to another.
THE DRUG TRADE

• The illegal drug trade is a global black market dedicated to the cultivation, manufacture, distribution and
sale of drugs that are subject to drug prohibition laws. Most jurisdictions prohibit trade, except under
license, of many types of drugs through the use of drug prohibition laws.
HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION

• Violating human rights. “Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.”
USE OF CHILD LABOUR

• Child labour refers to the employment of children in any work that deprives children of their childhood,
interferes with their ability to attend regular school, and that is mentally, physically, socially or morally
dangerous and harmful. This practice is considered exploitative by many international organisations.
Legislation across the world prohibit child labour. These laws do not consider all work by children as
child labour; exceptions include work by child artists, supervised training, certain categories of work
such as those by Amish children, some forms of child work common among indigenous American
children, and others.
EXPLOITATION OF LAND

• The process of expropriation "occurs when a public agency (for example, the provincial government and
its agencies, regional districts, municipalities, school boards, post-secondary institutions and utilities)
takes private property for a purpose deemed to be in the public interest". Unlike eminent domain,
expropriation may also refer to the taking of private property by a private entity authorized by a
government to take property in certain situations
EFFECTS OF EXPLOITATION

• Ruined Lives
• Higher Crime Rates
• More Violence
• Less reason to obey police
• The “rich” stay rich while the poor and enslaved stay poor and enslaved
• Spreading of disease
• Mortality
• Illegal birth rates increase
• Illegal abortions increase (because of the sex exploitation)
EXAMPLE OF A HUMAN TRAFFICKING EVENT

• In South Africa in 2010, the World Cup was supposed to be held, however, because of the human trafficking
that was happening there, it was almost moved/ cancelled. With the increased number of tourists (mainly
focusing on the men) the government was concerned that the trafficking of women for sex slaves would
even further increase. The spread of disease is one of the main issues while looking at this case. They
decided that because there would be many police at the tournament and the surrounding cities, that this
wouldn’t be as big of a problem as they had originally thought. However, this human trafficking and sex
slaves is so dangerous and such a big concern because it happened in a poorer region of South Africa, and
protection is not available, and even if it was, it would not be the choice of the woman to use this
protection. Without protection and treatment, HIV and Aids are a huge concern when looking at the sex
slaves and human trafficking. This is also a problem in Madagascar but not nearly as bad as what happened
in South Africa in 2010.
