Data preparation
• Clip the downloaded data within the boundary of study area( shape
file)
Data preparation
• Stack all the data set into single file.
• Calculate the weekly mean value from daily data set on each grid
point
• Transfer the weekly mean values into standardized value(percentile
value) and save the all results in raster format.
Analysis Drought Identification.
• Create the functions based on the definition of drought which will be apply on the saved data(
percentile data)
Definition of drought
1st condition.
• The 7-day mean soil moisture declines from above the 40th
percentile to the 20thpercentile within 3 weeks (21 days), which
is the “onset” stage of flash drought.
• The drought will be terminated when 7-day mean soil moisture
again rise from 25 percentile with in 6weeks (42days).
Definition of drought
2nd condition.
• Determine the average rate of intensification by using the
following formula.

• The RI mean should not less than 6.5 percentile/week

Result save.
• When both conditions full fill then it is considered as a drought event
• The out put must consists of the number of drought events with
average value of RImean per year in netcdf format for each grid point.
• The out put must consists of the of drought events per year netcdf
format for each grid point.
