INTRODUCTION
 As we can see there are playgrounds and gardens in schools, colleges and
offices so machines are required to cut down the unnecessary grasses.
 Because it is difficult to maintain with:
1. Manual scissors (difficult to operate, time consuming , labour cost more)
2. Engine powered lawn mower( fuel required , pollution is more)
3. Electronic grass cutter (expensive in nature)
 Therefore this project is based on to find the optimum solution for this
problem.
OBJECTIVES

To design a economic lawn mower

vehicle for grass cutting

To utilize ecofriendly operating

mechanism

To perform a computer aided

design model of grass cutter

To incorporate the pedaling force

of a cycle for blade actuation

To fabricate the lawn mower with

the low cost
LITRATURE REVIEW

EDWIN BUDDING – 1827 – Used to cut grass on

sports grounds and extensive gardens.

MARRY BELLIS – 1922 – Introduced world’s first

self propelled, riding law tractor known as
“Triplex”.

MERVYN VICTOR RICHARDSON – 1952 – Invented

Victa Mowers i.e. lighter in weight and easy to
use.
PARTS OF A LAWN MOWER
1. WHEEL:
• Attached to the axle and used
to move the entire system.
• Tyre gives the grip on wheel
rotation.

2. SPIRAL CUTTER:
• Manipulates the grass to be cut
by cutter blade or bed knife.
• Shearing action of mower is
there.
• Reel is supported by precision
bearings held within the slide
plates.
3. SPUR GEAR:
• Power transmission in high
velocity of gear.
• Consist of cylinder or disk
with the teeth projecting
radially.
4. BED KNIFE:
• Held rigidly on the bed bar.
• The contact between blade
reel and cutter blade
provides a shearing force
which cuts the grass.
CLIP
 It is the forward distance travelled between successive blade
contacts at one shear point.
FACTORS AFFECTING CLIP:
 The diameter of the reel.
 The number of reel blades.
 The speed of the reel.
 The ground speed.
THEORITICAL CONCEPT

 Main source of energy is rotational energy of

wheel which transfer to the blade

 Bed knife and blade shear off the grass.

 Reel speed plays the important role in
cutting.
DESIGN
There
   are three major components to design:
1. Helix angle of blade
Cot ƛ=W/2πr

2. Speed of the cutter

N1 /N2 = Z2 / Z1
3. Cutting power
PC = (mc * g)*(N1 \ 60)

Where, W=Length of cylinder

r= radius of cylinder
ƛ=Helix angle
N1=Speed of cutter , N2=Speed of wheel
Z1=No. of teeth on ring gear , Z2=No. of teeth on pinion
gear
THINGS TO BE DONE
 Adjustable vertical displacement of rotor blade.
 Use of obstacle sensing mechanism.
 Back pedalling.
 Bagging process
