Work-study investigates the work done in an organization

and it aims to find the most effective way of using industrial
01 resources like man, material, machinery, money, etc. Every
company wants to achieve the best qualities of the product
at the minimum possible time.

The time needed to manufacture an item depends upon the

manufacturing procedure. Method study, one phase of work-
02 study aims to find the best possible manufacturing procedure
which needed less time and does not cause any fatigue for
the workers.

This is achieved by removing the unnecessary motion in a certain

procedure or applying the best-suited sequence of operation in
03 the process

All the details about the existing method are

recorded. This is done by directly observing
the work. Symbols are used to represent the
RECORD activities like operation, inspection,
transport, storage and delay. Different charts
and diagrams are used in recording

This step comes after the method
is recorded by suitable charts and
diagrams.
The individual activity is examined
EXAMINE by putting a number of questions.

DEVELOP THE MOST EFFICIENT

AND ECONOMIC METHOD
The answer to the questions given
below will result in the development of a
better method.
1. Purpose – What should be done?
2. Place – Where should it be done?
3. Sequence – When should it be done?
4. Person – Who should do it?
5. Means – How should it be done

07 MAINTAIN THE NEW METHOD

BY REGULAR CHECKING
The work study man must see that the new
method introduced is followed.
The workers after some time may slip back to the
old methods. This should not be allowed.
The new method may have defects. There may be
difficulties also. This should be rectified in time by
the work study man.

06 INSTALL THE NEW METHOD

This step is the most difficult stage in method
study. Here the active support of both
INSTALL management and trade union is required.
Here the work study man requires skill in
getting along with other people and winning
their trust

Work study finds application in various sectors like,

1. Different industries like production, research and
development, etc.
2. Sales, marketing,
3. Warehouse, store, office, hospital, etc design,
4. Construction.

DEVELOP

The first element of the actual design process will be a diagram that considers codes in a visual format. It will
consider “large picture” requirements, such as proximity to other buildings, height restrictions, and egress
requirements.

DEFINE

A full feasibility study of the large-scale design

should be conducted at this point to understand
how access to the site, the orientation of the
building, availability of existing utilities, and other
factors influence and limit design.

INSTALL

A full understanding of the permitting process will lead

to the most detailed version of design plans to date
that incorporates the restrictions of permits into the
design process. At this stage, you can expect to begin
making more intricate design decisions, such as
whether to use wrought iron exterior doors or where
to incorporate tile and wood flooring.

MAINTAIN
The construction manager will coordinate the purchase
of all construction materials, equipment, and the
necessary labor for the project at which point the
building will begin. The process usually starts with
grading, excavation, or site conditioning followed by
concrete pouring and steel structure erection. From
there, framing, roofing, interior, and exterior
development will be monitored by the construction
manager and individual inspectors for quality control.
