What ever we do online, also has online consequences.

Some scenarios:
1. Online Gaming – Sometimes, children might get overboard

REMEMBER:
Anything and everything that is abused is dangerous and
some goes with online gaming.

Online addiction is when it becomes the child only wants to do


most of the time.

Signs of addiction may include spending too much time or


money, preparing to play games instead of eating or sleeping.

Cyber Bullying
Bullying using the social media platform or internet.
When simple online bullying leads to cyber bullying.

Example of Cyber bullying

1. Harassment – a person threathening another person thru the use of social media or
internet.
2. Exclusion- excluding a person from an online social media circle.
3. Masquerading- taking the identity of another child in order to tarnish the
reputation of the child.
4. Cyberstalking – Following the online activity of the child, making the child feel
uncomfortable.
5. Flaming – Teasing the child online in order to elicit a negative reaction from a child.
6. Outing – Exposing the child's secret (example: private conversation between two
children)

EVEN IF FOR MANY CHILDREN, THERE ARE NO DISTINCTIONS.

2. The Concept of Stanger's – the people that


we do not know.
This is the same both online or offline. The
way we interact to strangers offline should be
the same with online.

* Not all strangers are bad. However, for younger


children, they may not have the capacity to discern
if a certain interaction with a strangers is already
unsafe or not.

For teenagers, Since their online social


media lead to interacting with strangers, it is
important to drive the message that they should
trust feeling if an interaction is risky or recognize
if it already unsafe.

3. Recognizing the Online Red Flags

Interactions which are violent or sexualized.


- Also includes interactions which make us feel
uncomfortable.

Example – Online chatting- children might interact with


people who might put them at risk or harm.

Remember:
The internet is a wonderful place where children can meet new friends.
But like the real world, there are good people and there are those who
might do us harm.
If someone online interacts with the children in a sexual or violent
ways, then it is not ok! Children should stop the interactions, report the
person and talk to the trusted adult.

-If a child do encounter online red flag, stop the


interaction and tell to a trusted adult about the
experience.

- Introduce that whatever we do upload online has


the potential to stay online for ever.
