Antilock Brake System & Electronic Stability Program

ABS developed by Mercedes-Benz in 1978

Antilock braking system prevents wheel from


locking while braking at high speeds.

ESP reaches 20 Years of saving lives

By reducing the skidding of the vehicle


automatically in critical driving situations
such as understeering, oversteering etc.
Adaptive Brake
The latest technology in the field of brakes.

Apart from basic function like ABS, ESP,


Adaptive brake also consist of the additional
features like Hold, hill start assist, brake priming
etc.

During emergency braking, the drivers behind


are warned by flashing the brake lights rapidly
reducing their reaction time and avoid a rear
end collision
Passive Safety
It covers all the measures that contribute to reduce the consequences of an accident.
This Include:

•External deformation
•Rigidity of passenger cell
•Deformation pattern of internal components of
passenger cell
•Restraint Systems such as Airbags, NeckPro,
Window airbag, beltbags, Child seats etc.
Distronic Plus
The system is a logical extension of the cruise control system in which the vehicle
maintains a preset distance from the car ahead

This radar-based system maintains a safe distance from the vehicle in front automatically
by braking when necessary and accelerating again when possible, even bringing to a
standstill if necessary
Safety and Comfort
Presafe is a system which senses a possible impact, hence reduces the effect by adjusting
the seats, tightening the seats belts, closing the side windows and sun roof automatically

A stereo camera and a system comprising of
long, medium and short range radars monitor
the area in front of the vehicle

BAS Plus optimizes the applied brake power


Attention Assist System
An individual driver profile is generated within 15 minutes at the beginning of each journey

The system compares this profile and recognizes driver fatigue depending upon various
factors such as steering movement, duration and time of driving, style of driving, lateral
acceleration of the vehicle, driver displays activity by using instruments etc.

Various sensors record movements and give audible and visual prompt for the driver to stop
his journey for a while
Speed Limit Assist
Determines the speed limit for the stretch on which we are driving, displaying the
information in the instrument cluster in the form of road signs.
The required information is determined via a multifunction camera and the evaluation of
navigation data. The display goes out when:

• The road type changes • The speed limit is terminated


• On cornering • No sign is detected for a long time
• City limits are detected
Active Lane Keeping Assist

Not only warns drivers they are inadvertently drifting out of the lane, but also prevent the
same by means of one sided brake intervention

Active at speeds between 60 to 200 km/h

The system intervenes automatically if the vehicle crosses the continuous road markings
Crosswind Assist

Detects sudden, strong gusts of wind which acts


on the side of your vehicle to prevent it from
being pushed out of its lane

The braking force depends on the strength of


the crosswind

Helps to prevent your car from drifting out of


lane by means of targeted braking on one side
of the vehicle

Crosswind Assist makes use of the precision


sensors of the ESP
Night View Assist Plus
The system employs infrared technology to present the night time road scene on the
display indicating identified persons

Added safety in night time driving

A spot light can flash up pedestrians at the side of the road in order to warn both the driver
and the pedestrian

•Pedestrians are detected at a range of up to 160m

•Animals at a range of up to 100m


Safety and Comfort
Intelligent Light System is an adaptive headlamp system which adapts automatically to
the prevailing weather, light and driving conditions
ILS in addition with the Bi-xenon lamps adapt itself to the driving speed and the steering
angle that is road curves and bends.
The ILS system adjust the focal length and the angle of the headlamps based on the inputs

Adaptive Highbeam Assist adjusts the headlamp range to the prevailing traffic situation
providing the best possible illumination without dazzling other motorists
MultiBeam LED
With their distinctive appearance provide a broad spread of light, with a color temperature
close to that of daylight in the new CLS

Low level of energy consumption

Exterior and interior lighting is composed only of LED’s in the W222 S-Class, the first
automobile to do so
Magic Sky Control
The light transmission of the roof can be electronically
adjusted, giving better control of the temperature and
brightness within the cabin

The glass section comprises two separate


panes, there is an emulsion containing
particles in between which react to electricity

When voltage is applied across the panel, the


particles align in a way that allows sunlight to
freely pass through

With the voltage applied to zero, the particles


are no longer arranged, blocking most of the
sunlight
Blind Spot Assist
The system serves to prevent accidents and supports the driver in safely carrying out a lane
change.

The system uses two radar sensors in the rear bumper to monitor activities in the rear side
areas of the vehicle.
Active Bonnet Protection for Pedestrians
In an Accident the rear of the active bonnet is raised, increasing the available deformation
space and substantially reducing the risk of injury to pedestrians

Three impact sensors in the front section of the car and special bonnet hinges are
pretensioned and locked into place with strong springs

The system is reversible and can be reset manually by the driver


Telematics
Navigation Systems

Navigation Systems along with voice commands equip Mercedes-Benz passenger cars

This system helps the user to find his/her destination using different features

Depending on the mobile telephone service provider, high data transmission speeds are
possible, the users GPRS enabled mobile is used as a modem for the internet applications.

Drive Train
ECO Start/Stop Function

Shuts down the engines when the vehicle is only briefly stationary and duly starts
the engine up again when the journey is to be continued

An ECO indicator in the instrument cluster shows when the function is active and
the engine is at standstill while the vehicle is stationary
Blue Efficiency
Reducing fuel consumption by up to 12.1% while maintaining the same level of performance,
through a combination of various intelligent technologies and innovative ideas

Incorporating lower displacement engine, ECO start/stop functions, improved aerodynamics,


less rolling resistance tyres, reduced windscreen thickness, lighter alloy wheels etc. the
models are energy efficient and fully optimised for lowering emissions
BlueTec
The system sets a benchmark concerning emissions of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and particles
Implemented in the form of two variants, the first combines an oxidation catalytic converter and
particulate filter with a long-life Nox storage catalytic converter and an additional SCR catalytic
converter

NOx storage catalytic converter, which stores the nitrogen oxides produced during combustion
and converts them at the right moment, reducing the nitrogen oxides to nitrogen (N2).

The second variant, Adblue an aqueous urea solution is injected into the exhaust flow
In this technology (Ad blue) a urea based solution is injected into the catalytic converter which in
turn is used as an exhaust aftertreatment agent
Direct Injection Petrol
Engines

The most important benefit is offered in the so-called


stratified mode, when they operate with a large
amount of excess air thus in a highly fuel efficient
manner

Multiple fuel injections makes this "lean burning"


possible for the first time at high engine speeds and
load ranges which until now, the stratified mode
could only be used at low partial loads

Fuel pressure in the system can range maximum up


to 200 bars
Piezoelectric Injectors

Used extensively in diesel and petrol engines

Piezo injectors, the successor of the solenoid type have the following advantages:

•Silent operation
•As these injectors have piezo crystals, faster operation can be achieved
•Precise metering of injected quantity of fuel is obtained
9G-TRONIC
Highly efficient nine speed automatic transmission helps to reduce fuel consumption by upto 6.5%,
providing a completely different level of comfort and dynamism

The nine gears enable comfortable, fuel-efficient driving at low revs and almost imperceptible gear
changes, as if the transmission were infinitely variable
7G-DCT
The dual clutch transmission operates without any interruptions
in tractive power

The comfort of an automatic transmission combined with the


efficiency of a manual transmission

When necessary, the electronic control


system performs multiple downshifts
providing faster bursts of speed

Also Manual gear-shifting via the shift


paddles adds to a sportier driving experience
Diesel Particulate Filter
The system removes more than 95% of soot
particles from exhaust gas

Essential to meet the Euro VI emission standard

Modified injection times of the common rail system


ensure that the filter cannot become clogged up
and eliminate the need for fuel additives
Chassis Systems
Magic Body Control

Combining the advantages of the active suspension system Active Body Control with the
globally innovative Road Surface Scan function- a stereo camera that scans the road ahead

The active suspension system makes the damping harsher or softer within fractions of a second
in advance and individually for each separate wheel via the active hydraulics, helping to reduce
the vehicle body movements significantly
4MATIC

This ALL Wheel Drive System dispenses with conventional differential locks.

Specific wheels with insufficient tyre traction are braked, the drive torque increased at wheels
with good traction.

The system incorporates a central differential in planetary configuration, a key characteristic is


the absence of conventional differential locks
Agility Control
Offering a high level of ride comfort thanks to selective adjustment of the damping system
in line with the road-surface conditions

By constantly scanning the surface of the road, it improves the road roar and tyre vibration
characteristics for smaller bumps and improves the damping and stabilization of the vehicle
over larger jolts.
Active Curve System
The System decouples the stabilizer bars on the front and rear axles enabling the vehicle to
roll more freely as required by the terrain

The system is based on hydraulic connection of the anti roll bars on the front and rear axles
AIRmatic
The System along with adaptive damping provides improved
ride comfort and vehicle dynamics compared with
conventional steel spring suspension

Can be adjusted for sporty or comfortable ride as required
