WRITING BODY

PARAGRAPHS 2
&3
For your argumentative essay
Structure of Body Paragraphs
2&3
■ The body paragraphs of an argumentative essay include:

Topic sentence with argument 1: Start with a sentence that transitions the focus from
the previous paragraph to the current one; it should also introduce the main sub-argument
for that particular section.
1
Evidences for argument 1 : After providing a valid argument, you must defend it
with factual support. Examples of this can be statistics, references or logical ideas that
support one’s claim by getting information from external sources, adding to the essay
2 overall validity.

Concluding Sentence: After presenting a defendable claim and supporting it with

evidence, one must end the body paragraph with a concluding statement. The concluding
sentence must reaffirm your argument 1. In other words, why this particular point was so
3 essential.
Let’s continue with our example…

Do you remember our topic?

Which cars are better,

Toyota or Ford?

This time, we’ll write paragraphs 2 & 3…

… but before we do it, let’s remember
our thesis statement once again…

Even though Ford cars may be more attractive

and more affordable, Toyota models are
indeed better cars because they offer superior
quality and get greater gas mileage.
Argument 1= Body paragraph 2
Argument 2= Body paragraph 3
Body paragraph 2- Topic sentence
Even though Ford cars may be more attractive and more affordable,
Toyota models are indeed better cars because they offer superior quality
and get greater gas mileage.

First, Toyota is better than Ford because

Japanese technology is simply of greater
quality than the American one.
Body paragraph 2- Evidences
Even though Ford cars may be more attractive and more affordable,
Toyota models are indeed better cars because they offer superior
quality and get greater gas mileage.
According to ConsumerReports.org, Toyota proved to be
“the most reliable brand overall” in 2014 (Mutchler,
2014)**. People also claim that these models have been
used for many years without having technical problems.

**Include statistics and facts from research to make your argument credible
Body paragraph 2- Concluding sentence

Even though Ford cars may be more attractive and more affordable,
Toyota models are indeed better cars because they offer superior quality
and get greater gas mileage.

Therefore, if people are really looking for quality,

they will buy a Toyota.
Reaffirm your
point!
Putting it all together…
First, Toyota is better than Ford because Japanese technology is simply of
greater quality than the American one. According to ConsumerReports.org,
Toyota proved to be “the most reliable brand overall” in 2014 (Mutchler,
2014). People also claim that these models have been used for many years

for quality, they will buy a Toyota.

… and we’re done with our body

paragraph 2!
… and now we will repeat the same
procedure for writing argument 2…
Body paragraph 3- Topic sentence
Even though Ford cars may be more attractive and more affordable,
Toyota models are indeed better cars because they offer superior quality
and get greater gas mileage.

Also, Toyota is better because when driving

long distances it gets greater gas mileage than
Ford.
Body paragraph 3- Evidences
Even though Ford cars may be more attractive and more affordable,
Toyota models are indeed better cars because they offer superior quality
and get greater gas mileage.
According to ConsumerReports.org (2017)**, when comparing these two car
brands in gas-saving vehicles with the best combination of fuel economy and
acceleration, Toyota comes ahead in most of its models than those from Ford in
the tests done by this organization. People also state that in 2017 these models are
the most fuel-efficient as it is recognized by Natural Resources Canada
(nrcan.gc.ca).
**Include statistics and facts from research to make your argument credible
Body paragraph 3- Concluding sentence

Even though Ford cars may be more comfortable and more affordable,
Toyota models are indeed better cars because they offer superior quality
and get greater gas mileage.
If people certainly want to spend less in
fuel and have less impact in the
environment, they will choose a Toyota.
Reaffirm your point by using words such as
certainly, indeed etc..
Putting it all together again…
Also, Toyota is better because when driving long distances it gets greater gas

… and we have our body paragraph 3!

Now, let’s put both together…
First, Toyota is better than Ford because Japanese technology is simply of greater quality than that of
American. According to ConsumerReports.org, Toyota proved to be “the most reliable brand overall”
in 2014 (Mutchler, 2014). People also claim that these models have been used for many years without

models are the most fuel-efficient as it is recognized by Natural Resources Canada (nrcan.gc.ca). If

… we’re done with the body of our

essay!
