COURSE OVERVIEW
INTRODUCTION
The goal of education is not only to promote
individual welfare towards the end of common good.
Thus, by helping the students develop
harmoniously the physical, moral and intellectual
faculties, they are prepared to participate actively
in the life of society, and in the progress,
contribute to the promotion of good (de Leon,
2005)
General Concepts

Physical Education
Is an integral part of the whole educational designed
to promote the optimum development of the
individual physically, socially, emotionally, and
mentally through total body movement in the
performance of properly selected physical activities
(Andin, 1988)
Fitness
It is the major goal of Physical Education.
Is the ability to live a healthy, satisfying and useful
life.

This kind of life is what the educational philosophers


and thinkers terms as “good life” and “good life
means that an individual satisfies his basic needs as
physical well being, love, affection, security and self-
respect.
Health
Is a state of complete physical, mental and
social well-being and not merely the absence
of disease or infirmity.
It is a physical condition in which an
individual has sufficient energy and vitality to
accomplish daily task.
Lifestyle
Isa way of living of individuals, families, and
societies, Which they manifest in coping with their
physical, psychological, social, and economic
environments on a day to day basis.
It is expressed in both work and leisure behavior
patterns and (on an individual basis) in activities,
attitudes, interests, opinions, values and allocation of
income.
