Guide Questions
Here are the following guide questions for this report:
1. What are nucleoproteins and nucleic acids?
2. What is the role of enzymes in digestions?
3. Why do we need to eat certain kinds of food which provides a
variety of proteins and vitamins?
4. What is the source of our energy?

Nucleoproteins
NUCLEIC ACIDS
Naturally occurring chemical
compound that is capable of
being broken down to yield
phosphoric acid, sugars, and
a mixture of organic bases
(purines and pyrimidines).
NUCLEIC ACIDS

Main information-carrying
molecules of the cell, and, by
directing the process of protein
synthesis, they determine the
inherited characteristics of every
living thing.
NUCLEIC ACIDS

The two main classes of nucleic

acids are:
● Deoxyribonucleic acid
(DNA)
● Ribonucleic acid (RNA)
NUCLEOTIDES
H3C
NUCLEOPROTEINS

are proteins that are associated

with nucleic acids. The protein
combined with DNA is commonly
either histone or protamine; the
resulting nucleoproteins are
found in chromosomes.
NUCLEOPROTEINS

They can serve functional roles

as structural ones, as with
histones in packaging chromatin
or enzymes, for example,
telomerase in modifying the
nucleic acid.
Enzymes
02
Enzyme

Is a protein that speeds up

chemical reactions in the
body. Digestive enzymes speed
up chemical reactions that
break down large food
molecules into small molecules.
Induced Fit
Cofactor

A cofactor is a non-protein chemical that assists with a

biological chemical reaction.

Varying Food Intake

■ Different foods provide
different types and
amounts of key nutrients,
it is important to choose
a variety of foods from
within each food group.
Nutrients

■ These are carbohydrates,
proteins, fats, vitamins,
minerals, and water.
Nutrients
Energy
Sources 04
Carbohydrates

■ are the main energy source

of the human diet.
Fats
■ Are body's most
concentrated source of
energy, providing more
than twice as much
potential energy as
carbohydrate or protein.
Protein
■ Provides energy in late
stages of prolonged
exercise
■ Provides energy when daily
diet is inadequate in total
calories or carbohydrate

Energy
Oxygen in the
Body
05
Respiration
is defined as a metabolic process
wherein, the living cells of an
organism obtains energy (in the
form of ATP) by taking in oxygen
and liberating carbon dioxide from
the oxidation of complex organic
substances.
Internal
Respiration
is the process of diffusing oxygen
from the blood, into the interstitial
fluid and into the cells. Waste and
carbon dioxide are also diffused the
other direction, from the cells to
the blood.
