Language in the Media
What is Media ?
 Media is what we used in the learning process to facilitate
the students and also teacher to get an effective learning
process.
Reason why use teaching media
 Can help students call up existing schemata and therefore
maximize their use of prior background knowledge in the
language learning process.
 Provides teachers with a mean of presenting material in a
time-efficient and compact manner and of stimulating
students’ senses.
 Teacher can expose their students to multiple input
sources.
Types of Media

 Non-Technical Media

 Technical Media
Non-Technical Media
 Example : Blackboard, Whiteboard, Flashcards, Poster,
Photos, Cartoon, Newspaper, Magazine, etc.

 Advantages :
 Electricity is unreliable
 Technical resources are scare
 Funding is limited
 Low cost
 User-friendliness
Technical Media
 Example : Record Player, CD Player, Television, Language
lab, Computer, etc

 Advantages :
 Less user-friendly
 Carry a larger degree of ‘psychological reality’ that can
bring the outside world in all its complexities into the
classroom.
