Sine Rule

How do you use the sine rule?

• To solve a triangle is to find the lengths of each of its sides and all its
angles. The sine rule is used when we are given either:
• a) three sides
• b) two sides and the included angle.
Question: Solve △PQR in which ∠ P = 63.5° and ∠Q = 51.2°
 and r = 6.3 cm.
Let’s Calculate the third angle-
∠R = 180° – 63.5°- 51.2 °= 65.3°
Now, Let’s calculate the sides:
6.3/Sin 65.3 = p/Sin 63.5
p = (6.3 × Sin 63.5)/Sin 65.3
p= 6.21 cm approximately.
Similarly, 6.3/Sin 65.3 = q/Sin 51.2
q = (6.3 × Sin 51.2) / Sin 65.3
q= 5.40 cm
∠R= 65.3°
p=6.21 cm
q=5.40 cm
• A triangle ABC has angle A = 106°, angle B = 31° and side a = 10 cm.
Find the other two sides.
A. 6.2 cm and 7 cm
B. 5.4 cm and 7.1 cm
C. 4.4 cm and 6.5 cm
D. None of these
• If sides of a triangle are 5.5 and 4.7 respectively. Angle opposite to the
side 5.5 is 63 degrees. Find the angle opposite to the side 4.7.
A. 43 degrees
B. 46.3 degrees
C.49.6 degrees
D. None of these
