Introduction :

 A hydraulic press is a machine press using a hydraulic cylinder to generate a

compressive force.
 Hydraulic systems is based on Pascal's law.
 A hydraulic system uses an incompressible liquid as its fluid, rather than a
compressible gas.
Components:

The components of hydraulic press include

Cylinders.
Pistons.
Hydraulic pipes.

The working of the press is quite simple and primitive. The system
comprises two cylinders that are filled with a fluid. The fluid present
inside the two cylinders is usually oil.
Main Principle :

 A hydraulic press works on the principle of Pascal’s law, which states that
when pressure is applied to a confined fluid, the pressure change occurs
throughout the entire fluid.
 Within the hydraulic press, there is a piston that works as a pump, that
provides a modest mechanical force to a small area of the sample.
 There is also a piston with a larger area, which produces a larger mechanical
force.
Role of Fluids in hydraulic press:

 The major function of a hydraulic fluid is to provide energy transmission

through the system which enables work and motion to be accomplished.
 A hydraulic system uses an incompressible liquid as its fluid, rather than a
compressible gas.

 Examples of equipment that might use hydraulic fluids are hydraulic brakes,
power steering systems, transmissions, garbage trucks, aircraft flight control
systems, lifts, and industrial machinery etc.

 The Four Primary Functions Of A Hydraulic Fluid Include:

 Transmitting Power.
 Lubricate The System .
 Sealing The Clearances.
 And Dissipating Heat .
Applications :

 A hydraulic press is used for almost all industrial purposes. But basically it is
used for transforming metallic objects into sheets of metal. In other
industries, it is used for the thinning of glass, making powders in case of the
cosmetic industry.
 Making Appliances.
 Manufacturing Electrical Parts.
 Making Ceramics.
 Manufacturing Car Parts.
 Building Aircraft.
 Military Application.
Advantages and Disadvantages :

 Advantages of hydraulic systems include,

 power.
 accuracy.
 efficiency and ease of maintenance.
 But they have disadvantages too:
 they can leak, which makes them messy.
 and the fluids inside them are often caustic to paint and some seals.
