Blood is used to transport various substances from one


part of the body to another by flowing continuously
around the body. In vertebrates, the blood flows through
a closed system of blood vessels. In mammals, there is a
double circulation in which blood passes through the
heart twice in one complete circuit.

called atria and
two lower
chambers called
ventricles.
