EFFECTS OF SMOKING
1. Lung damage

Smoking cigarettes affects lung health because a person breathes in not only nicotine but
also a variety of additional chemicals.
Cigarettes are also linked to developing
- lung cancer
- emphysema 
- chronic bronchitis
- asthma attack.

2. Heart disease

Smoking cigarettes can damage the heart, blood vessels, and blood
cells.Research shows a direct link between smoking and
developing  peripheral artery disease.

Having PAD increases the risk of experiencing:


- blood clots
- angina, or chest pain
- a stroke
- a heart attack
3.Vision problems

Smoking cigarettes can cause eye problems, including a greater risk of


cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.
Other vision problems related to smoking include:
- dry eyes
- glaucoma
- diabetic retinopathy

4.Unhealthy skin and hair

 A person who smokes may experience prematurely aged, wrinkled skin.


They also have a higher risk of skin cancer, "especially on the lips."Smoking
can cause the hair and skin to smell of tobacco. It can also contribute to hair
loss and balding.
5.Poor oral hygiene

People who smoke have double the risk of gum disease. Smoking


tobacco can limit a person's ability to taste and smell things
properly. It can also stain the teeth yellow or brown.

6.Digestive system

Smoking increases the risk of mouth, throat, larynx, and


esophagus cancer. Smokers also have higher rates of pancreatic
cancer. 

7.Persistent coughing

Damage to the airways contributes to this coughing.


8.Mood stimulation
Smoking can temporarily put you in a good mood,but dependence is
common and withdrawal side effects like anxiety and irritability can be
challenging to manage.

9.Loss of appetite
Smoking can suppress your appetite by decreasing your sense of taste.This
can make eating less enjoyable .

10.Immune system
Smoking lowers your immune system's ability to fight off
injection.Smokers have more infections of the respiratory tract than
people who don't smoke.
Some other effects of smoking
PASSIVE SMOKING
 The inhalation of smoke, called secondhand smoke(SHS),
or environmental tobacco smoke(ETS), by persons other
than the intended “active” smoker.
 It occurs when tobacco smoke enters an environment,
causing its inhalation by people within that environment.
 Exposure to secondhand tobacco smoke causes disease,
disability, and death.
 Health risks of second hand smoke have been major
motivation for smoke-free laws in workplaces, indoor
public places, and also some open public spaces.
EFFECT OF PASSIVE SMOKING
 Non- smokers who live with a smoker are 20%-
30%more likely to develop lung cancer.
 Passive smoking can cause premature death in non-
smokers.
 Passive smoking increases the risk of coronary heart
disease by 25%-40% almost same level as a smoker.
 Second-hand smoke contains more than 7000
chemicals, with 69 cancer-causing chemicals.
