Functions of a Social Group worker
1. Development of appropriate program media for various
types of groups
2. Establishment of standards for social group work services and
eligibility requirements
3. Keeping of process records of group activities/discussions for
learning tools and research
4.Networking with other welfare agencies/practitioners and
creating public support system
5. Evaluating the results of the program against goals and
objectives
Responsibilities of a Social Group Worker
1. Accepts expressions of hostility from the group and help group
members express their hostilities constructively;
2. Protect the interest of the group as a whole from the hostility
of some individual members;
3. Help individuals achieve adjustments in groups;
4. Help sick people to develop groups in which they can use the
reality of the social situations they create as a means of
recovering social health;
5. Adjust role to meet the interests and needs of the members of
the group and the social situation.

1. Skill in establishing purposeful relationship
- ability to gain acceptance of the group and in relating
to the group on a positive professional basis
2. Skills in analyzing the group situation
- to see the potentialities of the group and areas for the

what the group needs and how quickly the group is
expected to move

- ability to motivate group members express their ideas,
