traditional Kibbutzim. 
 A kibbutz is a collective community in Israel that was
traditionally based on agriculture.
 The first kibbutz, established in 1909, was Degania. Today,
farming has been partly supplanted by other economic
branches, including industrial plants and high-tech
enterprises.
 A 1 hour walk through the green lanes, old and new
dwellings, the children houses, the laundry, talking about this
unique way of life, community, education, decision making,
economic issues and more.

Walking Tour

We’ll enter the Old City via the Jaffa Gate and then
walk through the colorful oriental market to the
Christian Quarter including the famous Via
Dolorosa and Church of the Holy Sephculer. We
then go on to see the Armenian Quarter with its
delightful pottery shops. Next, we’ll arrive at the
Jewish Quarter with its Cardo, a 1800 year old
shopping mall still in use today. Finally, we arrive at
the holiest place for the Jewish people, the Western
Wall, the last remnant of the Temple. From here we
will also see the Dome of the Rock – of holy
importance to Islam.

Among the highlights of the Museum’s original campus is the
Shrine of the Book, designed by Armand Bartos and Frederick
Kiesler, which houses the Dead Sea Scrolls, the oldest biblical
manuscripts in the world, as well as rare early medieval biblical
manuscripts.

Adjacent to the Shrine is the Model of Jerusalem in the Second


Temple Period, which reconstructs the topography and architectural
character of the city as it was prior to its destruction by the Romans
in 66 CE, and provides historical context to the Shrine’s
presentation of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Development projects in the Western Wall area in recent years have led
to the discovery of new subterranean complexes containing impressive
discoveries that shed light on the history of Jerusalem. Included
descending into the excavations site exposed under the western part of
the Western Wall Plaza, and to the underground spaces found under the
classic Western Wall Tunnels route.
  
Among the unique discoveries, one can see remnants of an
administrative building from the First Temple period, a magnificent
Roman road, ritual baths, royal rooms that served the nation’s
dignitaries, and more.

Official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. It is dedicated


to preserving the memory of the dead; honouring Jews who
fought against their Nazi oppressors and Gentiles who selflessly
aided

in particular and genocide in general, with the aim of avoiding
such events in the future.
