INTRODUCTION
• In recent years, global warming and the limitations in use of energy resources
increase environmental issues of emissions.
• Also In industry, most of the expenses are due to energy (both electrical and
thermal), labour and materials. But out of them energy would relate to the
manageability of the cost or potential cost savings and thus energy management will
help in cost reduction.
• As waste heat recovering techniques, such as thermoelectric generator (TEG) is The
possibilities of thermoelectric systems’ contribution to “green” technologies,
specifically for waste developed .
• Its implementation in automobile industry is carried out in many ways. Previous
research shows that TEG as a waste heat harvesting method is useful.
• Due to distinct benefits of Thermoelectric generators, they have become a promising
alternative green technology.
• Thermoelectric generator direct converts waste-heat energy into electrical power
where it is unnecessary to consider the cost of the thermal energy input.
Aim of project
• Our aim is to produce electricity using waste heat of an IC Engine.
• Saving energy which is used for charging mobile, batteries and electronic
applications etc.
• Produce electricity from waste energy and use it for other purposes.

Component used
• IC Engine
• Peltier Plate
• Heat Sink
• Super Capacitor
• Battery
Heat sink

A heat sink (also commonly spelled heat sink) is a

passive heat that transfers the heat generated by an
electronic or a mechanical device to a fluid
medium, often air or a liquid coolant, where it is
dissipated away from the device, thereby allowing
regulation of the device's temperature at optimal
levels. In computers, heat sinks are used to cool
CPUs, GPUs. it is a specific kind of system with a
large thermal energy capacity that can supply or
absorb finite amounts of heat and always remains at
constant temperature.
Super Capacitor

A super capacitor (SC), also called an ultra capacitor, is a

high-capacity capacitor with a capacitance value much
higher than other capacitors, but with lower voltage
limits, that bridges the gap between electrolytic
capacitors and rechargeable batteries.

Fast charge as compare to a battery.

Its life is long as compare to battery.
Peltier Plate
Thermoelectric coolers operate by the Peltier effect (which also
goes by the more general name thermoelectric effect). The device
has two sides, and when a DC electric current flows through the
device, it brings heat from one side to the other, so that one side
gets cooler while the other gets hotter. The "hot" side is attached to
a heat sink so that it remains at ambient temperature, while the cool
side goes below room temperature. In special applications, multiple
coolers can be cascaded together for lower temperature, but overall
efficiency drops significantly.
• A thermoelectric circuit composed of materials of different Seebeck coefficient (p-
doped and n-doped semiconductors), configured as a thermoelectric generator.

• The thermal conductivity of semiconductors can be lowered without affecting their

high electrical properties using nanotechnology.

• This can be achieved by creating nanoscale features such as particles, wires or

interfaces in bulk semiconductor materials. However, the manufacturing processes
of nano-materials is still challenging.
PELTIER EFFECT
The Peltier effect is a temperature difference created by applying a voltage between
two electrodes connected to a sample of semiconductor material.
 This phenomenon can be useful when it is necessary to transfer heat from one
medium to another on a small scale.
SEEBECK EFFECT

• The Seebeck effect is a phenomenon in which a temperature difference between two

dissimilar electrical conductors or semiconductors produces a voltage difference
between the two substances.
• Thus in simple words producing a temperature difference in a thermoelectric
component such as thermoelectric generator (TEG), a certain amount of voltage can
be produced and be used for a small applications.
• Using this principle, the project is designed to produce electricity and use for several
small applications.
Working Concept
• Thermo Electric Effect The thermoelectric effect is the direct conversion of
temperature differences to electric voltage and voltage to temperature difference.
• A thermoelectric device creates voltage when there is a different temperature on
each side.
• Conversely, when a voltage is applied to thermoelectric component, it creates a
temperature difference.
• This effect can be used to generate electricity, measure temperature or change the
temperature of objects either on heating or cooling. Because the direction of heating
and cooling is determined by the polarity of the applied voltage.

• When the engine starts and

produce heat due to this the one
side pieltier plate absorb the heat
and other side in cold temp due
to this temp difference takes
place and produced electricity.
• A thermoelectric module consists of two dissimilar thermoelectric materials joining in
their ends: an n-type (negatively charged); and a p-type (positively charged)
semiconductors.
• Most motorcycles, an operational temperature range of 155F / 68C to 220F / 104C is
normal. Living in hotter or colder climates will adjust the range somewhat, as will the
condition of your bike and its cooling system. A good rule of thumb for temperatures:
Warming Up: Up to 130F / 55C
Advantage Disadvantage
 Waste heat – electricity  Low efficiency
 Available 24 hrs a day  High cost
 No noise and low maintenance  High output resistance
 Convenient power supply  Adverse thermal conditions
 Portable power
 Low space requirement
 No moving part
 solid state construction
Conclusion

At high fumes temperature the all out force that could be extricated is expanded. Result
shows the voltage, current, power created and proficiency of the framework is increse
with expanding the temperature. At 95 C temeprature it produce inexact 9 volts.Hence
the TEG framework convert the waste warmth into power and this can be utilized to
other reason like car battries and versatile charging etc.
