INTRODUCTION
1.1. Background of the study

●Organizational success and development is always one of the main goals and
target of any association weather it is public or privet institution.
●So employee effort of the work combined to the leadership styles in the
organization affects the organization‘s status of victory or futile.
●To remain competitive employee commitment is crucial.
•Leadership is one of the most pressing issues .
•As a universal activity, leadership is fundamental for effective organizational and
social functioning.
•The very nature of leadership is its influencing process and its resultant outcomes.
•Such process is determined by the leaders and followers characteristics,
personality, behavior perceptions, attributions.

In less developing countries including Africa and its relationship with employee performance, is

still far and few in between.
In Organizations, leadership is a managerial activity the purpose of which is to direct the employees

in one immediate chain of command toward the accomplishment of work goals.
that employee commitment will be largely influenced by the interactions that occur between
colleagues and with their immediate and senior managers.
Commitment is complex and continuous, and requires employers or managers to discover ways of

enhancing the work life of their employees .
The commitment of competent employees is critical to the success of the organization.

Leadership behavior plays a very important role in enhancing employee job satisfaction, work

motivation and work performance.

Good leadership behavior accelerates the development of most organizations. It

therefore plays a critical role in the performance of organizations.


•Employee performance is an important building block of an organization and
factors which lay the foundation for high performance must be analyzed by the
organizations.
•Every organization cannot progress by depending on one or two individuals‟
effort, it is collective effort of all the members of the organization.
•Performance is a major multidimensional construct aimed to achieve results and
has a strong link to strategic goals of an organization

1.2. Background of organization
Haile Resort Hawassa with head quarter in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia was founded in 2003 E.C by

long distance legend Major Haile gebresilase and his wife Alem.
Haile Hotels and Resorts have seven Hotels and Resorts they are Sululta athletics village,
Zeway H.R, Shashemene H.H, Hawassa H.R, Arbaminch H.R, Gondar H.H, Adama H.R and
coming soon wolayita soddo and Addis Ababa H.H.
Haile Resort Hawassa is a luxurious resort in Hawassa city, 275 kilometers to the south from
the capital city, Addis Ababa.
Lying over 52,000 m2 ground of sub-tropical beauty, it is situated on the shores of Lake
Hawassa offering a 1,000 m2 picturesque lake view.
Haile resort Hawassa is named after the Ethiopian legend long-distance runner major Haile
gebresilase.
It all started in 2003, when Haile Resort Hawassa joined the hospitality industry by opening a
luxurious 4-star resort .
Haile Resort Hawassa has nine departments such us Front Office, Housekeeping, Food and
Beverages, Food production, Health club, Finance, Human resource management, engineering
and security with 285 employees.

1.3. Objectives of the project

1.3.1. General objectives


 The general objective of the project will be to investigate the impact of
leadership practice on employee‘s performance in the case of Haile Resort
Hawassa.
1.3.2. Specific objectives
The Specific objective of this project will be to:
 1. Determine the type of leadership style that exists in the
organization,
 2. Describe whether the employees are part of organization‘s Decision
making.
 3. Investigate whether the leaders and employees of the Resort are
along with corporate office, organizational goals and objectives.
 4. Determine if the leadership style practiced by the leaders has
influence on employees ‘performance in the organization.
 5. Make suggestions based on the findings.
1.4. Significance of the project

This project is expected to be very resourceful to many stakeholders;


 First it is beneficial to the management of the Resort to know
better themselves and then the employees of the Resort in order
to establish more harmony and relationship between them.
 Secondly it is helpful to those interested to know the
organization leadership process.
 Furthermore, it will help lecturers and students to use as a
reference.
 Finally, other researchers will use the shortcomings for
further study and research.
1.5. Methodology

1.5.1. The Project Design


The study will be focuses on the assessment of the
effect of leadership practice on employee performance
at hospitality industry on Hawassa Haile . The study
will be use mixed Project approaches in order to
achieve the Project objective.
1.5.2. Project
The Project Approach
problem along with the philosophy of Project
methodology would guide the choice of the appropriate
Project method.
On the basis of knowledge claims strategy of inquiry that
guide selection of particular Project methods and specific
Project methods of data collection and analysis
characterizes Project approach in to mixed approach.
1.5.2.1. Mixed approach

Mixed methods approach, which is believed to moderate the


biases of quantitative and qualitative approaches.
It is more than simply collecting and analyzing both kinds of
data both numeric information and text information.
Mixed approach also has its strengths such as it aid to
triangulate evidence and it helps to solve the problems
associated with both qualitative and quantitative approach.
Mixed approach implemented sequentially, in which the
Project starts with gathering qualitative data and then gather
quantitative data.
1.5.3. Population, Sample size and
Sampling design
The study population is that aggregation elements
of from which the sample is actually selected.
The Project used the management staff and line
staff to classify groups into 2 categories sample
frame: decision maker and non-decision makers.
A stratified random sampling procedure will
employed to randomly select the sample groups
from the strata. Stratified sampling guarantees
representation from each disbursement strata at
one level .
1.5.4. Data source and collection method
In order to get sufficient and relevant information for the
study the project will use both primary and secondary data.
The primary data will be collect from customers, employees
of the Resort and management on the current situation of the
resort and performance of employee and secondary data will
be collect from books, manuals and reports.
Primary data will be collect using structural interview from
Haile Resort Hawassa management because, to get relevant
data and by using questioners from customers and employees.

In the questioners, the Project will use both close- end
and open- end questions.
they should generate important information on
assessments of leadership practice on employee
performance.
1.5.5. Method of data analysis

The collect data will be analyzed by


using descriptive analysis method
according, percentage and frequency
count will be analyzed and interpret the
data collect form the sample respondent.
