What is Carnapping?

- taking, with intent to gain, of a motor

vehicle belonging to another without the
latter's consent, or by means of violence
against or intimidation of persons, or by
using force upon things (RA 6539, "Anti-
Carnapping Act of 1972.")

● Stolen While at Parked Unattended

● Seized at Gunpoint with Intimidation
● Failed to Return (Technical Carnapping)

6. Bump and Ride
Penalties for Carnapping

● Without violence or intimidation-14 years and 8 months to 17 years

and 4 months
● With violence or intimidation or force upon things-17 years and 4
months to 30 years
● If the owner, driver occupant of the vehicle was killed when carnapping
was committed-life imprisonment
● Violation of other provisions: 2 to 6 years and a fine equal to
purchase price of the stolen vehicle, engine or part involved in
the violation

NOTE: If the offender is a government official or employee, he/she also

be dismissed from service and barred from running for public office. He
can’t be appointed to any public office.
If the offender is a foreigner, he will be automatically deported
after serving sentence
