TO THE SANCTUM SANCTORUM.
SO, THE SOPANAM MUSIC ALSO
MEANS SINGING FROM THE
SIDE OF THE TEMPLE STEPS.
SOPANA SANGEETHAM
(MUSIC), AS THE VERY NAME
SUGGESTS, IS SUNG BY THE
SIDE OF THE HOLY STEPS
(SOPANAM) LEADING TO THE
SANCTUM SANCTORUM OF A
SHRINE.
INSTRUMENT USED:-

*THE RAGA IS RENDERED WITH THE


ACCOMPANIMENT OF IDAKKA WHILE KEEPING THE
RHYTHM ON THE CHENGILA FOLLOWED BY THE
TYAANI. THE IDAKKA, THE PERCUSSION
INSTRUMENT IS HARMONIZED BY MOVEMENT OF
THE HAND TO PRODUCE DIFFERENT TONES AND
PITCHES. THE HOURGLASS TYPE MIDDLE PIECE IS
THE CONTROLLING UNIT OF IDAKKA

*THE MUSIC IS USED IN FOLK ART FORMS LIKE


MUDIYETTU, ARJUNA NRITHAM AND CLASSICAL
ARTS FORMS LIKE KUTIYATTAM, KRISHNANATTOM
AND KATHAKALI. THERE IS NO UNIFORM SYSTEM
FOR RENDERING SOPANA SANGEETHAM. EACH AND
EVERY ARTIST SINGS AT THE LOCAL TEMPLE,
PRAISING THE PRESIDING DEITY. EACH OF THEM
HAS
