Injury prevention and injury control refer to any effort to


prevent injuries or lessen their severity. These efforts often
focus on assessment of the environment for unsafe
conditions, such as loaded guns in the home or asbestos in

leading cause of death overall and the leading cause of death
for persons 44 years of age and younger
