ARTICLE DEVELOPMENT

THE POSSIBILITIES...
THE TWO OPTIONS FOR MY DOUBLE PAGE
ARTICLE COULD BE EITHER A SHORT FILM
REVIEW OR ALTERNATIVELY AN INTERVIEW
WITH A CHARACTER WITHIN THE FILM OR A
MEMBER OF THE PRODUCTION TEAM. I
WILL BE CONDUCTION FURTHER RESEARCH
IN TO THIS AS I HAVE NOT YET DECIDED AS
TO WHICH FORMAT OF ARTICLE I WILL
CHOOSE. HOWEVER, THIS WILL, HOPEFULLY,
NOT EFFECT THE LAYOUT OF THE ARTICLE AS
MANY OF MY IDEAS ARE QUITE SIMPLE AND
VERSATILE.
PHOTO SHOOT: TAKE ONE
I am generally extremely pleased with
the turnout of these images. Although
the backdrop is very dark, the clothing
and facial expressions of the two
characters within the image stand out
excellently.
In terms of editing, it will be extremely
difficult to highlight the trousers of the
female character as well as the hair of
the male character as they were already
extremely dark and almost fade in to the
background. The expressions don’t
necessarily connote the genre of comedy,
however the male character does project
a sense of being fed up with his situation,
another theme that is present within the
short film.
If I were to incorporate text on to this
image, I feel that it would be more
successful to keep it minimal and very
simple, whether or not this will work as
an effective background image for my
article is yet to be seen.
PHOTO SHOOT: TAKE
TWO
This second photo shoot was slightly more
successful than the first. Particularly in terms
of the lighting and composition. The first
image on this page is blurry, unfortunately,
and therefore I will not be using it to create
my article, but the layout of all the
newspapers around the male character and
the look of anguish on his face excellently
represents the tiresome process of
researching through lonely hearts columns.
The second image, I feel, is a lot more
successful, clear crisp and with a humorous
expression displays the comedy element of
the film brilliantly. Editing would have to
take place to adjust the colouring of the
image but hopefully, this would not be too
much of a difficult task. When incorporating
text, I would have to place this image on a
separate A4 page entirely. Therefore one
side of my double page spread will include
text and still shots from the film itself, whilst
the other would present this image along
with, potentially, some callout quotes from
the main article.
PHOTO SHOOT: TAKE
TWO
I really like each of these images on
this page. They are all composed
really well on the page whilst still
presenting a theme of feeling fed up
and annoyed with looking for the
right dates. His body language
suggests that he has given up on his
search for love, whilst still seeming
quite humorous.
The general composition and long
shot of the newspapers and Ajay
himself allows the perfect set up to
place the text around the lower
section of the page. Again some
editing will need to take place to
adjust the colours, but after this is
done I think that these images have
excellent potential to become an
interesting film review or interview.

FINAL CHOSEN IMAGE
On the whole, the second photo shoot was a lot more successful and well received by my target audience than
the first. This is mainly represented by the better lighting and overall composition of the images. This particular
image was the favourite among all the people that asked. My target audience found it quite amusing that the
character was surrounded by a mess of newspapers and felt that this had the best potential to create an
interesting article.
