History of the Water Board

It was Started as a department of government work

Ithas been established by act of parliament in year


1974

Main purpose was distribution of drinking water

It has done for limited area particularly in main


cities such as Colombo city
In that time, water bills were issued in manually

All the data has been updated in a cards of the relevant


site office

In the year 1985, has been issued computerized water


bill to the customers

Data has been stored in a data base system

 This system has been developed by MSL Computer


systems
 Oracle database system is used to store the data

 Several version has been introduce as according to


the change of requirements

 In the year 2016, again it has been changed in to


the web based system

 The main server was established in the head office

 It has become easy to data mining of the top


management

Solution of Manual Meter Reading Issue

GPRS, LoRa, NB-IoT, communication technology

 Introduced the smart water meters for remotely

 Use the same smart solution to each inlet of water
supply and domestic smart meters

 The system has to developed to generated alert for


abnormal variances

 Directly inform to operational team about the


possible leakage or bypass situation immediately
Recommendation for the Billing
adjustment

 Introduce the smart water meter to the customer

 Apply the billing adjustment within the water billing


system

Improve the facility to preparation of adjustment,


approvals and apply to the customer accounts also

Introduce the app or any other facilities to inform their


monthly consumption to the billing system
 Speed up of the monthly bill processing by the
upgrade of the information system

 Timely upgrade of the billing system with user

 Introduce the user friendly system according to the


consumer’s requirement.

 Developed the mobile app

finance and commercial staff

through the system
