Group 1 TYPE LEVEL

PPT INDICATIONS
 Float operated level indicator is used to
measure the liquid levels in a tank in
which float rests on the surface of the
liquid and follows the changing level of
liquid .

INTRODUCTION

The movement of the float is

transmitted to the pointer through a
suitable mechanism which indicates the
level on a calibrated scale .
SIMPLE FLOAT OPERATED
LIQUID LEVEL INDICATOR

• The shown figure is the simplest form of float operated

mechanism for the continuous liquid level measurement.
• Here, the movement of the float is transmitted to the pointer by
stainless steel or phosphorus-bronze flexible cable wound around
a pulley .
• The float is made of corrosion resisting material .
• WORKING :- when there is a rise in level of liquid in the
tank then the float goes up and hence the pointer attached to
the cable wire causes the pointer to move over the graduated
scale .Similarly the pointer comes back when the level goes
down .
• RANGE :- With this type of instrument, the liquid level from ½
feet to 60 feet can be easily measured.

TRANSMISSION SYSTEM
FOR LEVEL INDICATION

• The figure consists of four bellow elements ,two in the

transmission side (C and D) and two in the receiver side (A and
B) .
• These bellows are hydraulically connected through pipes filled
with an oil.
• When the float moves up and down according to change in level
,it’s position is transmitted by a lower arm to the bellow assembly
A-B .
• When the level rises ,B is compressed and A expands , thus
causing the oil in the pipe to flow from B to C and D to A .
• With this type of float operated mechanism ,the liquid level can
be transmitted to a distant place via a hydraulic transmission
system.

SYSTEM FOR LEVEL MEASUREMENT

• The bellows are balanced so that the movement at the transmission end is
reproduced in the reverse mode at the receiving end .
• Any change in ambient temperature affects both the bellows ,i.e, both
expand and contract .therefore the level transmission at the pointer is not
affected .
• Range :- With this type of instrument ,level transmission upto 250 feet can
be achieved .
 MAGNETIC FLOAT DEVICE

• The magnetic float level transmitter provides a 3-wire

resistance output or can be equipped with an appropriate
level transmitter to provide a 4-20mA analog signal
indicating liquid level.
• As the float is raised or lowered by the liquid level, the
sensing rod will induce a resistance output, which is
directly proportional to the liquid level.
• The Magnet Float Level Transmitter is a sturdy, reliable and
durable device that is applicable across most industries.
• The sensing guide rod includes a series of reed switches
along the entire measuring length.
• Reed switch:- The reed switch is an electrical switch
operated by an applied magnetic field.
• Animational part
 It is possible to read the liquid levels in a
tank from the ground level even if the tank
is kept below the ground level.

Its cost is low and has reliable design.
