MIGRATION

Migration The Canadian political

theorist Catherine Dauvergne
states that migration is the
dynamics of globalization.

The inevitable mobility of

products and exchange of ideas/
information is highly influenced
by migration.
Imbalanced levels of development makes each nation motivated.
Hence, they seek for migration to suffice the resources and
materials for people. While they divulge the possibilities for better
opportunities outside their country of affinity
(Catherine Dauvergne. 2004. Sovereignty, Migration and the Rule of Law in Global
Times. The Modern Law Review. Vol. 67, No.4, p. 59).
Relative Deprivation
According to Bauman (2007), people tend to mirror their way
of living on the lifestyle that most Hollywood movies depict, as a
result, most of the lower middle-class citizens have the highest
potentials of moving out, so they can live out and find the
answers for the deprivation. Conversely, the most deprived
individuals are incapable of migration.
Analysis of Pull and Push
Factors of Migration
Push Factors

A study was conducted in February

2020, and the research says that
migration has become a new trend
nowadays, as people tend to seek for
places where job situations are better
and readily available(Hassan et
al.,2020).

In my view, job would be the root to

obtain sustainable life.
More opportunities Better health
for livelihood facilities

Better education
system and facilities

Pull Factors
• People emigrate after weighing and assessing their
situations very closely, moreover, the pull and push
factors greatly influence their decisions.
• Arguably, assessing and acknowledging these factors
are a wise move. It is imperative that they identify the
pros and cons of such decisions.
Stories of
Immigrants
The Story of Arianna Yang
and Mary Fray
While people may have different reasons for emigration, these two
women have one commonality as they embarked on another life in
different country—political reason. Arianna Yang’s grandparents first
moved out of their country, Laos, and that they suffered the ill-effects
of war; further, most of the citizens in their country struggled to survive
Thereafter, they lived in the camp in Thailand.
Her grandparents first stop was in the United States, they got the
chance to eat a burger in McDonald’s and luckily found a Thai who
helped them get a food according to their liking. Although Arianna was
a second-generation immigrant, the stories and the process of adapting
to the world where they currently live is memorable. They eventually
learned English to communicate better.
On the other hand, Mary Fray was born in Roccamarice, Pescara Italy spent the last sixty years of her
life in Chicago. She was born by the name Anna Maria DiMillo. Her father was a musician, barber, and
tailor, whereas her mother was in-charge of her other siblings and mostly took care of them at home.

It was just so unfortunate that Fascist government of Benito Mussolini took control of the country, and
their ski resort was eventually squandered by the government. Thus, life became difficult for people in
Pescara. Although, political reason was such a major consideration they took into account, her first attempt
to migrate to the United States was denied due to her eye problems, so it took her 1 year of treatment until
she finally settled in Portland, Maine. For some economic and social reasons, she learned English and
graduated in High School, it was true that some people at the time found it challenging to get a decent job.
Thereafter, she moved to Chicago to study fabric and design, there she met William Fray who was a son
of Swedish immigrant and they got married despite differences in culture and religion. Albeit era of
adjustment and adaptation, her heart remained with two countries Italy and the United States. She even
wished to bring her grandchildren to Roma.
In conclusion, even though immigrants differ in their life stories as to
why they undertook migration, it all boils down to seeking or searching
for a better life for their family and future generations. It is indeed true
that the context of migration has a lot to do with globalization, as the
study titled Factors Affecting Migration Trend and Its Impact on the
Socioeconomic Conditions of the World Community recommends people
to create good situation and opportunities to enhance one’s way of living.
Anticipate every setback and breakthrough, only then can they find the
very reasons for their plans. Consider pull factor that would be beneficial
in the long run and would eventually lead to the answers for relative
deprivation—and development.
