The chi- square test is an important tests amongst the
several tests of significance develop by statistician.
It was developed by Karl Pearson in 1900.
CHI-SQUARE TEST is a non-parametric test not
based on any assumption or distribution of any
variable.
This statistical tests follows a specific distribution
known as chi square distribution.
In general the test we use to measure the differences
between what is observed and what is expected
according to an assumed hypothesis is called the chi-
square test.
The Relationship Between Gender
and Preferred Movie Genre of the
Random Students of La
Concepcion College
Objectives
To determine if there is a relationship
between gender and preferred movie
genre of the random students of La
Concepcion College.
Hypothesis
Ho: There is NO relationship between gender
and preferred movie genre of the random
students of La Concepcion College.
x² = ∑(O-E)²
E
Where:
O = observed value/ collected data
E = expected value
∑ = summation or total
EXPECTED VALUE, E
E = RT × CT
GT
Where:
RT = row total
CT= column total
GT= grand total
Observed Value Table
Movie Genre Animatio Drama Horror Sci- Fi RomCom Total
n
Male 7 1 5 17 9 39
Female 4 9 12 7 12 44
Total 11 10 17 24 21 83
For x²=
0.65+2.90+1.11+2.90+0.07+0.57+2.58+0.99+2.57+0.07
= 14.41
df = (r-1) (c-1)
df = (2-1) (5-1) a = 0.05
x² critical = 9.49
df = (1) (4)
df = 4
Decision:
Since x² computed (14.41) is greater than x² critical
(9.49), reject null hypothesis (Ho).
Conclusion:
Since null hypothesis is rejected, we can conclude that
there is a relationship between gender and preferred
movie genre of the random students of La Concepcion
College.
